The consumption of water of low microbiological quality can be detrimental and may cause significant health issues. Thus, amplicon sequencing can be an advantageous method to observe bacterial diversity in water. This study aimed to understand the complex bacterial communities present in natural mineral water packaged in 20 L returnable containers through amplicon sequencing.

Background And Aims: Studies comparing chronic constipation (CC) and asymptomatic subjects are lacking in our population. This study aimed to compare the high-resolution anorectal manometry (HRAM) profiles of patients with CC and healthy volunteers (HV), as well as patients with functional defecation disorders (FDD) and those without in the constipation group.
Methods: This retrospective comparative study included patients with CC who underwent HRAM and a balloon expulsion test (BET).

Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) requires a healthy and functional peritoneal membrane for adequate ultrafiltration and fluid balance, making it a vital treatment for patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). The spectrum of PD-associated peritoneal fibrosis encompasses a diverse range of collective mechanisms: peritoneal fibrogenesis, epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT), peritonitis, angiogenesis, sub-mesothelial immune cells infiltration, and collagen deposition in the sub-mesothelial compact zone of the membrane that accompany deteriorating membrane function. In this narrative review, we summarize the repertoire of current knowledge about the structure, function, and pathophysiology of the peritoneal membrane, focusing on biomolecular mechanisms and signalling pathways that potentiate the development and progression of peritoneal fibrosis.

Introduction: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients are highly susceptible to infection. Moreover, prophylactic and empirical antibiotic treatment during chemotherapy disrupts the gut microbiome, raising the risk for antibiotic-resistant (AR) opportunistic pathogens. There is limited data on risk factors for AR infections or colonization events in treated cancer patients, and no predictive models exist.
