Thermoelectric Peltier coolers (PCs) are being increasingly used as temperature stabilizers for optoelectronic devices. Increasing integration drives PC miniaturization, requiring thermoelectric materials with good strength. We demonstrate a simultaneous gain of thermoelectric and mechanical performance in (Bi, Sb)Te, and successfully fabricate micro PCs (2 × 2 mm cross-section) that show excellent maximum cooling temperature difference of 89.3 K with a hot-side temperature of 348 K. A multi-step process involving annealing, hot-forging and composition design, is developed to modify the atomic defects and nano- and microstructures. The peak is improved to ∼1.50 at 348 K, and the flexural and compressive strengths are significantly enhanced to ∼140 MPa and ∼224 MPa, respectively. These achievements hold great potential for advancing solid-state refrigeration technology in small spaces.

Optical manipulation techniques have been widely applied in the biomedical field. However, the key issues limiting the efficiency of optical manipulation techniques are the weak driving force of optical scattering and the small working range of optical gradient forces. The optothermal Marangoni convection enables effective control of flow fields through optical means, and particle manipulation based on this mechanism offers advantages such as a wide working range, strong driving force, and high flexibility.

This study presents a comprehensive first-principles and device-performance investigation of alkali metal-based anti-perovskites ZBrO (Z = K, Rb, Cs, and Fr) for advanced optoelectronic and photovoltaic applications. Using density functional theory (DFT) with GGA-PBE and mGGA-rSCAN functionals, we analyzed the structural, electronic, optical, mechanical, phonon, population, and thermoelectric properties of these compounds. All ZBrO materials exhibit direct band gaps and strong optical absorption in the visible-UV spectrum.

Enhancing the energy conversion efficiency of fuel cells necessitates optimization of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) under high-voltage conditions through improved Pt catalysis. This study introduces an electrocatalyst that uniformly anchors a high loading (40 wt%) of small Pt nanoparticles (3.2 nm) on a novel support: tellurium and nitrogen co-mediated graphitized mesoporous carbon (Te-N-GMC).

Strong intermolecular interactions facilitate the formation of efficient ion transport channels, which, in turn, significantly boost the performance of anion exchange membranes (AEMs). Herein, 9-anthracene methanol with both π-π stacking and hydrogen bonding intermolecular forces is used as a bifunctional unit to synthesize high-performance AEMs through the Friedel-Crafts superacid catalytic reaction for the first time. The π-π stacking in the bifunctional units can induce hydrophilic pyridine cations to aggregate, and the hydrogen bonding can provide transport sites for OH and water molecules in the hydrophobic component.

A CoO/AgMoO/CeOternary nanocomposites photocatalyst was successfully synthesized through a straightforward ethanol-assisted chemical method. Comprehensive characterization of its structural and optical properties was conducted using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-DRS), and photoluminescence (PL) analysis. XRD analysis confirmed the presence of CoO, AgMoO and CeO in the ternary composite sample.
