Background: Environmental exposures, such as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), in conjunction with social and behavioral factors, can significantly impact liver health. This research investigates the combined effects of PFAS (perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), alcohol consumption, smoking, income, and education on liver function among the U.S.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), as a class of emerging environmental contaminants, have garnered significant attention because of their widespread presence. With some legacy PFAS phased out, novel PFAS are increasingly produced and utilized. However, research on the pollution characteristics, bioaccumulation, and biomagnification of these emerging ones remains limited.

Transmission of fosD-carrying methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus ST764 in East Asia: Evidence of human and livestock transmission.

J Glob Antimicrob Resist

July 2025

Department of Infectious Diseases, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou, China; Key Laboratory of Microbial Technology and Bioinformatics of Zhejiang Province, Hangzhou, China. Electronic address:

Objectives: To investigate the prevalence and to characterise fosD in the clinical isolates of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in China.

Methods: We screened 471 MRSA isolates for fosD using genomic sequencing and ResFinder, evaluated antimicrobial susceptibility, and performed nanopore sequencing, plasmid transfer via electroporation, molecular cloning of fosD, and phylogenetic analyses.

Results: Among 471 MRSA isolates, ten fosD-positive strains, which belonged to ST764, were identified in two teaching hospitals in Guangzhou.

Objectives: The objectives of this study were to investigate the associations of single and mixed exposure to the environmental pollutants per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) with renal function and mortality in non-dialysis chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients.

Methods: Non-dialysis CKD1-4 stage patients in the 2003-2018 US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) who were ≥20 years old were included. Five PFAS were measured and all patients were followed up till 31 December 2019.

An electrochemiluminescence biosensor for the screening of environmental estrogens using a peptide probe targeting the activated estrogen receptor.

Environ Res

October 2025

College of Energy Environment and Safety Engineering, China Jiliang University, 258 Xueyuan Street, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, 310018, China; College of Environment, Hangzhou Institute for Advanced Study, University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, 310024, China. Electronic address:

Screening of environmental estrogens (EE) is important for ecological safety and public health. Biosensors provide a new tool for rapidly screening EEs over animal tests and cell assays. Mimicking the molecular interactions of the estrogen receptor (ER) pathway in cells, an electrochemiluminescence (ECL) biosensor for EE screening was designed by using the activated ER as the biomarker of estrogenic activity and a peptide probe to recognize the activated ER.
