Article Abstract

Polypyrrole (PPy) has attracted widespread attention due to its excellent environmental stability, high conductivity, simple synthesis, good biocompatibility, and reversible redox properties. PPy derivatives not only inherit the advantages of polypyrrole, but also have some unique properties. The side and N-site substitution of PPy can not only yield polymers with good solubility, but it also endows polymers with special functionalities by controlling the introduced functional groups. The performance of copolymers can also be adjusted by the type of monomer or polymerization ratio. In this review, an overview of the different types, main preparation methods, and the application prospects of PPy derivatives reported to date are summarized and presented. The current challenges and future opportunities in this research area are also prospected.

A visible-light-induced cascade radical fluoroalkylation/cyclization of -hydroxyaryl enaminones/2-(allyloxy)benzaldehydes with CFBr/1,2-dibromotetrafluoroethane in the presence of -Ir(ppy) and KHPO has been developed, which efficiently provides 3-fluoroalkyl-substituted chromone and chroman-4-one derivatives in good yields. In particular, the industrially available and low cost CFBr and 1,2-dibromotetrafluoroethane are used as fluoroalkyl reagents in this process, endowing the process with the potential to be used on a large scale. The mechanism was proposed based on the control experiments.

Ultraviolet (UV) light plays a central role in applications ranging from photochemistry to sterilization and water treatment. However, its low abundance in sunlight (∼10%) limits the direct solar use of UV-driven processes. Sensitized triplet-triplet annihilation upconversion (TTA-UC) offers a promising route to generate UV light from visible light under low-power excitation.

Combination of different therapy modalities has emerged as a promising strategy for effective cancer treatment. Herein, we developed a multifunctional doxorubicin (DOX)-conjugated hyaluronic acid/polypyrrole (HA/PPy) nanoplatform, termed PPy-HA-CH nanoparticles, for the targeted photothermal chemotherapy of breast cancer. This nanoplatform was fabricated through layer-by-layer assembly of dopamine/hydrazide-modified hyaluronic acid (DHHA), hydroxyethyl chitosan, and anti-HER2 antibody-conjugated hyaluronic acid aldehyde on PPy nanoparticles.

Here, we report the synthesis and study of three Ir(III) complexes, which are derivatives of -Ir(ppy) (Hppy - 2-phenylpyridine). In these derivatives, the third position of the pyridine ring of one of the ppy ligands is functionalized with a tolyl (Ir-tol) or triphenyl triazine group (Ir-meta and Ir-para). Ir-meta has a 3-(3,5-diphenyl-2,4,6-triazinyl)phenyl group on the ppy pyridyl ligand, giving a disposition of the triazine to the ppy ligand, and Ir-para has a 4-(3,5-diphenyl-2,4,6-triazinyl)phenyl group bound to the ppy ligand, placing the triazine moiety to the ppy ligand.
