Mitochondrial membrane remodeling during heat acclimation in Mongolian gerbils.

Mar Life Sci Technol

August 2025

School of Life Sciences, State Key Laboratory of Microbial Technology, Shandong University, Qingdao, 266237 China.

Unlabelled: Mongolian gerbils had high ability to endure both high and cold temperatures. To study the mechanism of high ability for thermal adaptation, gerbils were acclimated to high temperature (30 °C) for 8 weeks, and were measured for metabolic features, body composition as well as mitochondrial content and activities. Lipidomic techniques were used to measure changes in mitochondrial membrane, including potential mitochondrial membrane remodeling during acute thermoregulation in gerbils.

Bioaccumulation of metals and metalloids in marine environments poses a significant risk to both human and aquatic health, with seasonal fluctuations substantially influencing its dynamics and magnitude. This study investigated the impact of metals and metalloids exposure on the health of Wallago attu (Wallago catfish) and Catla catla (Indian carp) inhabiting the Head Siphon, Mailsi, Pakistan. This study involved the seasonal (May 2022, October 2022, April 2023) assessment of physicochemical properties and the concentrations of several metals and metalloids-copper (Cu), chromium (Cr), arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), nickel (Ni), zinc (Zn), and iron (Fe)-in water samples.

Biomass and valve length of diatoms living on tree bark as novel indicators of atmospheric environment changes.

Environ Res

September 2025

Hubei Key Laboratory of Regional Ecology and Environmental Change, School of Geography and Information Engineering, China University of Geosciences, Wuhan, 430078, China. Electronic address:

Diatoms, an important group of primary producers, are valuable indicators of environment changes in aquatic ecosystems. Presently, limited knowledge is available on diatoms living on tree bark and their responses to atmospheric environmental changes. Mosses such as Hypnum callichroum living on the bark of Cinnamomum camphora were collected monthly in a 9-year period to explore temporal changes in composition, biomass and valve length of diatoms in a subtropical evergreen broadleaf forest.

Objectives: In recent decades, China has experienced successive epidemics of seasonal Japanese encephalitis (JE), with the Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) particularly spreading continuously in rural and suburban areas.

Methods: Nationwide data on 9061 JE cases, mosquito abundance from 89 surveillance sites, and population movement between 337 cities during 2013-19 were obtained. Seasonal multivariate linear regression models including time trends and reconciliation terms representing annual and semiannual cycles were fitted to the weekly time series of JE cases, and the amplitude and peak time of the cycles were estimated.

Benzylisoquinoline alkaloid production: Moving from crop farming to chemical and biosynthesis.

Biotechnol Adv

September 2025

BOKU University, Department of Biotechnology and Food Sciences (BTLW), Institute of Bioprocess Science and Engineering (IBSE), Muthgasse 18, 1190 Vienna, Austria. Electronic address:

Benzylisoquinoline alkaloids (BIAs) are a diverse group of plant secondary metabolites that play a key role as analgesics, anti-cancer, and anti-microbial medication. BIAs are currently exclusively produced through crop farming which adversely affects the supply chain resilience of BIA-based medication because availability is limited by low accumulation in plants and harvest seasons. Also, yields fluctuate due to annual weather changes and decrease overall due to global climate change impact on agriculture.
