Article Abstract

Overexpression of carboxyl/cholinesterase (CCE) genes has been reported to be associated with many cases of pesticide resistance in arthropods. However, it has been rarely documented that genes participate in spirodiclofen resistance in . In previous research, we found that spirodiclofen resistance is related to increased P450 and CCE enzyme activities in . In this study, we identified two genes, and , which were significantly upregulated in spirodiclofen-resistant strain and after exposure to spirodiclofen. RNA interference of and increased the spirodiclofen susceptibility in . In vitro metabolism indicated that CCE3 and CCE5 could interact with spirodiclofen, but metabolites were detected only in the CCE3 treatment. Our results indicated that CCE3 participates in spirodiclofen resistance through direct metabolism, and CCE5 may be involved in the spirodiclofen resistance by passive binding and sequestration, which provides new insights into spirodiclofen resistance in .

has developed resistance or cross-resistance to most registered acaricides; however, the molecular mechanism underlying acaricide cross-resistance remains to be elucidated. In this study, a field-collected population of was found to display high resistance to both abamectin and spirodiclofen (CoR-NN). A carboxyl/cholinesterase gene is significantly upregulated in CoR-NN and after exposure to abamectin and spirodiclofen, respectively.

Multiple pesticide residues in the diet can be ingested through the intestine; however, the interactions affecting intestinal health remain unclear. Histopathological analysis of mouse intestines revealed synergistic damage in those exposed to a binary mixture of abamectin, fluazinam, and spirodiclofen. The combined exposure to fluazinam and spirodiclofen resulted in a 73.

Article Synopsis
  • The two-spotted spider mite, a significant pest for glasshouse roses in China, has developed resistance to many acaricides, impacting rose production.
  • Testing of 10 mite populations revealed that they were resistant to at least eight acaricides, with some populations showing over 70,000-fold resistance to abamectin and evidence of new mutations related to this resistance.
  • Findings emphasize the urgent need for managed resistance strategies in rose cultivation, given the widespread multi-acaricide resistance and the discovery of a new mutation associated with resistance to bifenazate.

The two-spotted spider mite () is a constant threat to greenhouse strawberry production. The application of synthetic acaricides is the main method of controlling . However, resistance development to traditional acaricides reduces their efficacy and eventually leads to control failure.
