Admixture between populations and species is common in nature. Since the influx of new genetic material might be either facilitated or hindered by selection, variation in mixture proportions along the genome is expected in organisms undergoing recombination. Various graph-based models have been developed to better understand these evolutionary dynamics of population splits and mixtures. However, current models assume a single mixture rate for the entire genome and do not explicitly account for linkage. Here, we introduce TreeSwirl, a novel method for inferring branch lengths and locus-specific mixture proportions by using genome-wide allele frequency data, assuming that the admixture graph is known or has been inferred. TreeSwirl builds upon TreeMix that uses Gaussian processes to estimate the presence of gene flow between diverged populations. However, in contrast to TreeMix, our model infers locus-specific mixture proportions employing a hidden Markov model that accounts for linkage. Through simulated data, we demonstrate that TreeSwirl can accurately estimate locus-specific mixture proportions and handle complex demographic scenarios. It also outperforms related D- and f-statistics in terms of accuracy and sensitivity to detect introgressed loci.

Breast milk is rich in bioactive proteins and oligosaccharides, including osteopontin (OPN) and 2'-fucosyllactose (2'-FL), which are believed to promote the growth of beneficial microbiota and regulate intestinal barrier function. In this study, fermentation substrates including DOPN (digested OPN fragment), 2'-FL and their combinations in varying proportions, were prepared through in vitro gastrointestinal digestion, dialysis and freeze-drying. Changes in gas production, organic acid levels, ammonia N concentration and bacterial population abundance were studied using an in vitro batch fermentation model, with feces inocula from healthy infants.

A blend of phenolic extracts from jabuticaba (), jussara (), and blueberry () has been proposed as a viable approach for incorporating bioactive compounds into food products. In this study, concentrated phenolic extracts from these three fruits were combined to formulate a mixture with a high content of phenolic compounds, total anthocyanins, and antioxidant capacity. The anthocyanins profile of the fruits was analyzed by HPLC/MS.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) have gained attention due to their chemical stability, bioaccumulation potential, and toxicity. The ocean serves as the ultimate sink for these compounds in the global environment. With the rapid development of the Hainan Free Trade Port, environmental pollution on Hainan Island has consequently become more pronounced.

Phosphogypsum is an acidic solid waste mainly composed of CaSO₄-2H₂O by-products of the wet process phosphoric acid industry, which has the characteristics of high impurity content, poor stability of stockpiling, but can be utilized in a resourceful way. Phosphogypsum waste utilization can reduce environmental pollution, save resources and create economic value. In order to investigate the fatigue characteristics and the mechanism of dynamic strength change of cement-phosphogypsum-red clay under wet and dry cycles, the cumulative deformation characteristics and the rule of change of critical dynamic stress of the mixed materials were investigated by dynamic triaxial fatigue test, SEM and XRD test, and the mechanism of dynamic strength change was analyzed according to the microstructure and the chemical mineral composition of the mixed materials.

Both ambient air pollution exposure and biological aging are associated with incident liver diseases, but previous studies mainly focused on single-factor associations. This study aimed to assess the combined effects of air pollutants exposure and biological aging on liver diseases incidence and investigate the potential mediating role of biological aging. We analyzed 418,576 UK Biobank participants.
