Background: Several studies have explored the effectiveness of PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors combined with neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) in the treatment of locally advanced rectal cancer(LARC), particularly in microsatellite stable(MSS) or mismatch repair proficient(pMMR) LARC patients. We undertook a single-arm systematic review to comprehensively evaluate the advantages and potential risks associated with the use of PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors in conjunction with nCRT for patients diagnosed with locally advanced rectal cancer.
Methods: The PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, ClinicalTrials.gov, ASCO and ESMO were searched for related studies. The main outcomes were pathologic complete response (pCR), major pathological response (MPR), anal preservation, and adverse effects (AEs).
Results: Fourteen articles including 533 locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) patients were analyzed. The pooled pCR, MPR, and anal preservation rates were 36%, 66% and 86%. Grade ≥3 adverse events occurred in 20%. Subgroup analysis showed that; dMMR/MSI-H had a pooled pCR (100%) and MPR (100%), pMMR/MSS had a pooled pCR (38%) and MPR (60%); the short-course radiotherapy and long-course radiotherapy had pooled pCR rates of 51% and 30%, respectively. The rates of pCR for the concurrent and sequential immuno-chemoradiotherapy subgroups at 30% and 40%, mirroring pCR rates for the PD-L1 and PD-1 inhibitor subgroups were 32% and 40%, respectively.
Conclusion: In cases of locally advanced rectal cancer, PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors combined with neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy have shown promising response rates and acceptable toxicity profiles. PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors combined with neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy hence has a positive outcome even in MSS LARC patients.

Purpose: This narrative review aims to provide an overview of current knowledge on mpox, emphasizing updated epidemiology and recent advances in treatment and prevention strategies, in light of the latest outbreaks.
Methods: We searched PubMed and Google Scholar for publications on 'Mpox' and 'Monkeypox' up to June 5, 2025. Grey literature from governmental and health agencies was also accessed for outbreak reports and guidelines where published evidence was unavailable.

Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) patient-derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) behave differently than normal ones, creating a more protective environment for leukemia cells, making relapse harder to prevent. This study aimed to identify prognostic biomarkers and elucidate relevant biological pathways in AML by leveraging microarray data and advanced bioinformatics techniques. We retrieved the GSE122917 dataset from the NCBI Gene Expression Omnibus and performed differential expression analysis (DEA) within R Studio to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) among healthy donors, newly diagnosed AML patients, and relapsed AML patients.

This study develops an integrated X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) photoemission electron microscopy (PEEM) platform on beamline BL09U at the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF), enabling nanoscale characterization of complex materials through energy-resolved imaging and local-area XAS. By using the wide range of energy tunability, full access to different polarizations and PEEM's surface sensitivity, we have established a gap-monochromator control system under the EPICS framework to synchronize the elliptically polarized undulator (EPU) gap and monochromator energy dynamically, optimizing photon flux stability for absorption fine structure analysis. Combining X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) and X-ray magnetic linear dichroism (XMLD) with PEEM and local-area XAS, this platform achieves concurrent mapping of electronic structures and magnetic domains in ferromagnetic nano-patterns, as demonstrated through our studies of NiFe Permalloy using this system.

Background: Pituitary adenomas are relatively common benign intracranial tumors that may cause significant hormonal imbalances and visual impairments. Radiotherapy (RT) remains an important treatment option, particularly for patients with residual tumor after surgery, recurrent disease, or ongoing hormonal hypersecretion. This study summarizes long-term clinical outcomes and radiation-associated toxicities in patients with pituitary adenomas treated with contemporary radiotherapy techniques at a single institution.

This article explores two complementary strategies for addressing the affordability and access challenges facing advanced therapies. As high development costs and limited market access have led to the withdrawal of several therapies, the article examines how these barriers create 'valleys of death' that prevent innovation from reaching patients. Through the case of Glybera and other examples, it outlines a rehabilitative approach focused on reforming current systems through improved reimbursement schemes, regulatory streamlining, and more efficient manufacturing.
