Purpose: The nutritional adequacy of plant-based diets for youth is of public health relevance but is insufficiently studied. This cross-sectional study aims to assess the micronutrient intake and nutritional status in youth adhering to vegan, lacto-ovo-vegetarian, pescatarian or omnivorous diets in Sweden.

Methods: Healthy 16-to-24-year-olds (n = 60 vegans, n = 59 lacto-ovo-vegetarians, n = 55 pescatarians, n = 61 omnivores) completed a 255-item web-based questionnaire, conducted four non-consecutive 24-hour dietary recalls, provided capillary blood samples and one spot urine sample.

: Dietary protein and carbohydrate affect postprandial glycemia in individuals with type 1 diabetes (T1D). This paper aimed to determine the relationship between the types of dietary protein (Study 1) and carbohydrate (glycemic index; GI, Study 2) and postprandial glycemia. : Two acute randomized crossover trials were conducted in adults with T1D comparing postprandial glycemia for test meals varying by protein type ( = 16 adults; 5 meals: egg, beef, chicken, salmon or whey (all 30 g protein), each served with fried rice (45 g carbohydrate) or GI ( = 8 adults, high or low GI bread, GI 52% vs.

Postulations for the Migration Behavior of Amino Acids as Cations in Capillary Zone Electrophoresis.

Electrophoresis

Helmholtz-Institut für Pharmazeutische Forschung Saarland (HIPS), Campus E8.1, Saarbrücken, Germany.

Amino acids (AAs) in their cationic form at pH 2.2 and usual ionic strength show a non-intuitive migration order in CZE. This is explained by setting up four postulates.

Background: Delayed diagnosis and treatment of type 2 diabetes increases diabetes-related complications, making the high prevalence of undiagnosed type 2 diabetes in Hong Kong an important concern. Point-of-care capillary HbA1c (POC-cHbA1c) testing holds promise as a comparably accurate, convenient, and timely alternative to venous HbA1c (vHbA1c) for type 2 diabetes screening, yet randomized trials are lacking. This study compared the effectiveness of a 2-step active opportunistic screening strategy using POC-cHbA1c versus usual practice employing vHbA1c and multiple clinic visits in detecting type 2 diabetes among at-risk primary care patients.
