Background And Importance: In the Czech Republic, paramedics are required to consult a physician before administering intravenous opioids, which may delay effective prehospital pain management. As paramedic competencies expand in Europe, it is important to evaluate the safety and efficacy of independent opioid administration in prehospital emergency care settings.
Objectives: To assess the safety and effectiveness of intravenous sufentanil administered independently by trained paramedics compared to administration following remote physician consultation in adult trauma patients.

Purpose: To compare analgesic outcomes between single- and multi-orifice epidural catheters at a 360-mL/h delivery rate during programmed intermittent epidural bolus.
Patients And Methods: In this prospective randomized double-blinded controlled trial, 102 healthy nulliparous parturients requesting labor analgesia at the Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital were enrolled from July to September 2023. Participants were given either single- or multi-orifice catheters for epidural analgesia (0.

Background: Fentanyl is used in some pediatric practices with a goal of suppressing 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) uptake in brown fat.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the frequency, intensity, and distribution of brown fat uptake in warmed children undergoing 18F-FDG PET/CT with and without premedication with fentanyl. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective study included children (< 18 years old) who underwent 18F-FDG-PET from 2014 to 2024 at a center that routinely warms patients and uses intravenous fentanyl for brown fat suppression for most patients.

Background: This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of esketamine plus dexmedetomidine for sedation and analgesia during computed tomography (CT)-guided lung tumor percutaneous microwave ablation (MWA).
Methods: Patients undergoing CT-guided percutaneous MWA of lung tumors were randomly divided into two groups: esketamine plus dexmedetomidine (Group E) and sufentanil plus dexmedetomidine (Group S). The patients' general information, mean arterial pressure (MAP), heart rate (HR), peripheral oxygen saturation, respiratory rate (RR), partial pressure of end-tidal carbon dioxide, bispectral index, and Ramsay sedation score were recorded before anesthesia administration (T0), after dexmedetomidine loading dose (T1), during percutaneous puncture (T2), during ablation (T3), at the end of surgery (T4), and during recovery of consciousness (T5).

Over the last several years, there has been an influx of α-agonists into the street drug supply, beginning with the proliferation of xylazine, a potent veterinary sedative. Since 2023, another sedative, medetomidine, has been widely detected. Medetomidine, broadly, encompasses two enantiomers-dexmedetomidine and levomedetomidine-with the dex enantiomer being pharmacologically active and present in human-use pharmaceuticals.
