Background: The prognostic value of nutritional status in anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) remains unclear. The Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI) is a reliable indicator of overall nutritional and immune status, and it has emerged as a significant prognostic factor in various malignancies. This study aimed to explore the utility of PNI in ATC.
Methods: We systematically reviewed ATC patients in our institute from January 2000 to June 2023 and categorized them into high and low PNI groups based on the median PNI value. Kaplan-Meier analysis and Cox regression were employed to assess the impact of PNI on overall survival, while ROC curve analysis evaluated the predictive value of PNI. Mimics software was used for three-dimensional reconstruction of pre- and post-immunotherapy tumor volumes, enabling the assessment of treatment response.
Results: A total of 77 ATC patients were included in this study. Low baseline PNI was associated with significantly shorter overall survival (1-year survival rate: 5.26% vs 30.77%; median survival time: 5.30 months vs 8.87 months). The 1-year, 2-year, and 3-year AUC values for PNI were 0.82, 0.79, and 0.77, respectively. In the multivariate analysis, both PNI and tumor size emerged as independent prognostic factors for patient overall survival. Among ATC patients receiving 2-3 cycles of immunotherapy, an increase in post-treatment PNI levels was positively correlated with a reduction in tumor volume.
Conclusion: PNI is an independent predictor of overall survival and holds the potential to serve as a valuable indicator for assessing and predicting immunotherapy efficacy in ATC patients.

Background: Treatment with antihypertensives in patients with advanced cancer is often continued until very late in the disease trajectory, despite a considerable risk of hypotension.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the time of deprescribing of antihypertensive agents in patients with cancer receiving palliative care during their last year of life. The monitoring of blood pressure (BP) during treatment was also studied.

BACKGROUNDThe COVID-19 pandemic has challenged efforts to optimise rational antibacterial use due to uncertainties in treatment protocols.AIMWe investigated the impact of COVID-19 on hospital antibacterial consumption in Belgium from 2017 to 2022, relative to the general and hospitalised population.METHODSWe analysed national reimbursement data using defined daily doses (DDD) and three metrics: DDD/1,000 inhabitants/day (DID), DDD/1,000 patient days (PD) and DDD/1,000 admissions.

Although a diagnosis of anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) can be rendered on fine needle aspiration (FNA), a core needle biopsy is often performed to provide sufficient material for immunohistochemical and molecular analysis. Rendering an ATC diagnosis on core biopsy can be challenging due to limited material. It is crucial that other diagnostic entities in the differential, such as poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma, medullary thyroid carcinoma, lymphoma, metastases, and NUT carcinoma (among others), are considered and that immunohistochemistry (IHC) is employed judiciously to support the diagnosis.

Introduction: The FDPG (German Portal for Medical Research Data) feasibility portal provides the number of patients who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria at a national level. In addition, it is possible to perform local installation of the Feasibility Portal, with a view to addressing queries relating to local feasibility. In order to facilitate the accurate interpretation of the cohort count and enhance the comprehensibility of the data at a local level, efforts have been undertaken to develop a visual representation of the local FDPG feasibility portal cohort.

Anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) is an aggressive malignancy with a median survival of six months. While immunotherapy (IT) has improved outcomes in other solid tumors, its role in ATC remains unclear. This study evaluated whether receipt of IT was associated with improved overall survival (OS) in the initial treatment of patients with newly diagnosed ATC.
