Water contamination by micropollutants is a global issue, yet there is limited information from low-income regions. To address this, we evaluated surface water quality in rapidly growing Sub-Saharan area of Malawi lacking wastewater treatment. Integrated assessment of passive sample extracts representing wet and dry seasons combined effect-based approach with in vitro bioassays, target and non-target chemical analyses (NTS).

Dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) is a ubiquitous organosulfur compound produced by various marine organisms and plays a central role in global sulfur and carbon cycling through microbial catabolism. In this study, we present the complete genome sequence and functional annotation of Paracoccus homiensis HT-F, a marine bacterium isolated from intertidal algae of the Yellow Sea, China. The genome comprises a 2,714,952 bp circular chromosome with a GC content of 63.

The global incidence of early-onset cancer has surged by nearly 80% over the past three decades, yet the underlying causes remain poorly understood. While genetics and lifestyle are among the traditional risk factors, emerging evidence implicates the human microbiome as a potent and overlooked contributor to early tumorigenesis. Increases in the studies that are exploring the tissue-specific microbiome signatures such as the enrichment of Actinomyces and Bacteroidia in early-onset colorectal cancer, or Enterobacter and Neisseria in pancreatic tumors offer compelling evidence for age-stratified microbial contributions.

Cadmium (Cad) is a worldwide heavy metal pollutant associated with global health challenges. Alteration of the intestinal microbiome, due to chemicals' exposure, plays a vital role in the pathogenesis of gastrointestinal diseases such as pancreatic disorders. Hence, modulation of the gut microbiota might be a targeted approach to manage pancreatic diseases.

Biological nitrogen fixation converts atmospheric nitrogen into ammonia, essential to the global nitrogen cycle. While cyanobacterial diazotrophs are well characterized, recent studies have revealed a broad distribution of non-cyanobacterial diazotrophs (NCDs) in marine environments, although their study is limited by poor cultivability. Here we report a previously uncharacterized Bradyrhizobium isolated from the marine diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum.
