Ozone, a highly reactive oxidant molecule, is widely used as a complementary therapy for various skin diseases, including wound healing, pressure ulcers, diabetic foot, and infections. However, there is limited research on the effectiveness of ozone for atopic dermatitis (AD). Ozonated sunflower oil (OSO) is an active ingredient obtained from partially ozonated sunflower oil (SO). OSO markedly reduced the LPS-induced increase in IL-1β and nitric oxide (NO) levels in RAW 264.7 mouse macrophage cells. Oxazolone (OXZ) was applied to hairless mice to induce AD-like skin symptoms and immune response. OSO significantly alleviated the OXZ-induced increases in the number of infiltrating mast cells, epidermal thickness, AD symptoms, thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), and filaggrin, as well as the serum levels of NO, IgE, IL-1β, and TNF-α. Furthermore, OSO inhibited the IL-4/STAT3/MAPK pathway and the expression of NF-κB. Our results suggest that OSO treatment could relieve AD-mediated skin damage through its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities. Therefore, it can be used as a therapeutic agent against AD-related skin diseases.

Ozonized sunflower oil has been found to have a valuable antimicrobial activity against bacteria, viruses, and fungi. However, delayed cutaneous wound healing, severe adverse skin reactions such as pain, burns, irritation, and unsatisfactory storage stability have limited its clinical use as it is known that the performance of ozonized sunflower oil is reflected by core indicators such as iodine value (IV), peroxide value (PV), and acid value (AV). Aiming to improve the above characteristics, ozone oxidation conditions such as the oil water content of raw materials, stirring speed, and ozonized time were successfully optimized, and the optimized conditions were 5%, 300 rpm, and 6 h, respectively.

Ozonated oils, derived from the reaction of ozone with unsaturated fatty acids in vegetable oils such as coconut, olive, sunflower, and sesame, have gained significant attention in medical applications due to their recognized germicidal, immune-stimulating, and tissue-repairing properties. These stabilized ozonated oils release ozone gradually in the form of ozonides, which are stable and capable of providing prolonged therapeutic effects, mainly when applied topically. The germicidal properties of ozonated oils, primarily exerted through the oxidation of microbial cell walls, make them effective in treating various conditions, including skin infections, dermatitis, and fungal infections.

Cutaneous leishmaniasis is an infectious disease that causes disfiguring scars, which are not eliminated by drugs available to the treatment. Besides, these marks lead to economic and social and economic losses. Ozonated oil has wound healing activity as proven in the literature, and its use with the standard treatment to leishmaniasis could enhance the therapy.

Aim: To evaluate the clinical effectiveness of ozonated sunflower oil (Oz) as an adjunctive of non-surgical periodontal therapy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2), on fibroblast cell viability and migration and the effectiveness of Oz on a Candida albicans (C. albicans) culture.
Methodology: In total, 32 sites in 16 DM2 with moderate to advanced periodontal disease with periodontal pocket depths ≥5mm were selected.

Purpose: To characterize the ocular surface microbiota in regular contact lens wearers with dry eyes and assess the effectiveness of reducing bacterial load using a liposomal ozonated oil solution.
Methods: This prospective, longitudinal, controlled study randomized subjects into two groups. Group A (45 subjects) received hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC, Artific®), while Group B (41 subjects) received ozonated sunflower seed oil with soybean phospholipids (OSSO, Ozonest®).
