Glycerol is an important platform compound with multidisciplinary applications, and glycerol production using low-cost sugar cane bagasse hydrolysate is promising. , an industrial yeast strain known for its high glycerol production capability, has been found to thrive in bagasse hydrolysate obtained through a simple treatment without detoxification. The engineered exhibited significant resistance to furfural, acetic acid, and 3,4-dimethylbenzaldehyde within undetoxified hydrolysates. To further enhance glycerol production, genetic modifications were made to to enhance the utilization of xylose. Fermentation of undetoxified bagasse hydrolysate by CgS45 resulted in a glycerol titer of 40.3 g/L and a yield of 40.4%. This process required only 1 kg of bagasse to produce 93.5 g of glycerol. This is the first report of glycerol production using lignocellulose, which presents a new way for environmentally friendly industrial production of glycerol.

This study aimed to develop an efficient green ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) method for naringin (Nar) from Exocarpium Citri Grandis (ECG) using a glycerol-based ternary natural deep eutectic solvent (NADES) and explore its biofunctional relevance. After screening and single-factor optimization, the optimal NADES was identified as glycerol:malic acid:propanedioic acid (1:1:2 M ratio, 30 % water content). Extraction conditions (liquid-solid ratio, temperature, time) were optimized via response surface methodology (RSM) and an artificial neural network-genetic algorithm (ANN-GA), with ANN-GA demonstrating superior predictive capability.

The unregulated use and improper disposal of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), particularly phenylbutazone (PBZ), are contaminating water resources and posing serious risks to the food chain. PBZ is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) commonly used for treating pain and fever in animals, and its persistence in the environment due to inadequate waste management has become a cause of concern. To address this, we report the fabrication of benzimidazole-based self-assembled nanomicelles (R2 NMs) for selective detection and removal of PBZ.

Glycerol and glycerol-3-phosphate are key metabolites at the intersection of carbohydrate, lipid and energy metabolism. Their production and usage are organismal and cell type specific. Glycerol has unique physicochemical properties enabling it to function as an osmolyte, protein structure stabilizer, antimicrobial and antifreeze agent, important to preservation of many biological functions.

1,3-Dioleoyl-2-palmitoylglycerol (OPO) is crucial for infant nutrition; however, conventional immobilized lipase requires high-purity enzymes, which increases costs and limits industrial scalability. Herein, Rhizomucor miehei lipase (RML) was immobilized on surface-modified magnetic nanoparticles using cross-linked enzyme aggregates (CLEAs) technology to produce FeO@SiO@TPOAC@RML CLEAs. This approach combines the separation and immobilization of enzymes, allowing for the use of lower-purity lipase, which enhances its suitability for industrial-scale processes.

Di-isobutyl phthalate (DiBP), a member of the phthalate esters, is frequently used in manufacturing consumer and industrial products as plasticizer to improve durability and flexibility. Despite much research, little is known about the direct mechanisms by which DiBP harms the male reproductive system. In the present study, a male ICR mice model was developed to investigate the reproductive effect and mechanism of DiBP exposure, followed by transcriptomics, non-targeted metabolome, and 16S rDNA sequencing accordingly.
