Article Abstract

Separator engineering is a promising route to designing advanced lithium (Li) metal anodes for high-performance Li metal batteries (LMBs). Conventional separators are incapable of regulating the Li diffusion across the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI), leading to severe dendritic deposition. To address this issue, a polypropylene (PP) separator modified by spray coating the Cl-terminated titanium carbonitride MXene ink is designed (PP@TiCNCl). The lithiophilic MXene provides excellent electrolyte wettability and low Li diffusion barriers, finally enhancing the Li diffusion kinetics of excessively stable SEI. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy depth profiling as well as cryo-transmission electron microscopy reveals that a gradient SEI hierarchy with evenly distributed LiF and LiCl is spontaneously formed during the electrochemical process. As a consequence, PP@TiCNCl delivers a high Coulombic efficiency (99.15%) coupled with a prolonged lifespan of over 5500 h in half cells and 3100 cycles at 2 C in full cells. This work offers an effective strategy for constructing dendrite-free and Li permeable interfaces toward high-energy-density LMBs.

When treatments are deemed not to be cost-effective and face non-reimbursement, policymakers in publicly funded healthcare systems may decide to ration treatments by withholding it from future patients. However, they must also address a critical question: should they also ration treatments by withdrawing it from patients already having access to the treatment, or is there an ethical difference between withdrawing and withholding treatments? To explore this question, we conducted a behavioural experiment (n=1404), examining public support for withdrawing and withholding treatments in reimbursement decisions across eleven different circumstances. Overall, public support for rationing by withdrawing and withholding was low, with no general perceived difference between withdrawing and withholding treatments.

This study explores how differences in colors presented separately to each eye (binocular color differences) can be identified through EEG signals, a method of recording electrical activity from the brain. Four distinct levels of green-red color differences, defined in the CIELAB color space with constant luminance and chroma, are investigated in this study. Analysis of Event-Related Potentials (ERPs) revealed a significant decrease in the amplitude of the P300 component as binocular color differences increased, suggesting a measurable brain response to these differences.

Photonic Reservoir Computing (RC) systems leverage the complex propagation and nonlinear interaction of optical waves to perform information processing tasks. These systems employ a combination of optical data encoding (in the field amplitude and/or phase), random scattering, and nonlinear detection to generate nonlinear features that can be processed via a linear readout layer.
