Histopathologic whole-slide images (WSI) are generally considered the gold standard for cancer diagnosis and prognosis. Survival prediction based on WSI has recently attracted substantial attention. Nevertheless, it remains a central challenge owing to the inherent difficulties of predicting patient prognosis and effectively extracting informative survival-specific representations from WSI with highly compounded gigapixels. In this study, we present a fully automated cellular-level dual global fusion pipeline for survival prediction. Specifically, the proposed method first describes the composition of different cell populations on WSI. Then, it generates dimension-reduced WSI-embedded maps, allowing for efficient investigation of the tumor microenvironment. In addition, we introduce a novel dual global fusion network to incorporate global and inter-patch features of cell distribution, which enables the sufficient fusion of different types and locations of cells. We further validate the proposed pipeline using The Cancer Genome Atlas lung adenocarcinoma dataset. Our model achieves a C-index of 0.675 (±0.05) in the five-fold cross-validation setting and surpasses comparable methods. Further, we extensively analyze embedded map features and survival probabilities. These experimental results manifest the potential of our proposed pipeline for applications using WSI in lung adenocarcinoma and other malignancies.

Image deblurring and compression-artifact removal are both ill-posed inverse problems in low-level vision tasks. So far, although numerous image deblurring and compression-artifact removal methods have been proposed respectively, the research for explicit handling blur and compression-artifact coexisting degradation image (BCDI) is rare. In the BCDI, image contents will be damaged more seriously, especially for edges and texture details.

Hepatocyte nuclear factor 4 alpha (Hnf4α), a conserved nuclear receptor central to vertebrate liver development and metabolic regulation, emerges here as a pivotal immune regulator in teleosts against complex infectious threats. While its metabolic roles are well-established, Hnf4α's function in bacterial infection, viral infection, and bacterial-viral coinfection-major challenges in global aquaculture-remained uncharacterized. This study reveals that teleost Hnf4α acts as a dual-functional immune checkpoint, essential for combating Aeromonas salmonicida, grass carp reovirus (GCRV), and their coinfection.

l-glufosinate has garnered increasing attention as an ideal herbicide for weed control in agriculture. However, the underlying racemization process of l-glufosinate in the aqueous phase remains unclear. In this work, we elucidated the racemization mechanisms through heating reactions and theoretical calculations.

Introduction: Prostate cancer (PC), the most common male genitourinary malignancy and second leading cause of global cancer deaths in men, frequently progresses to lethal castration-resistant PC (CRPC). Ginsenoside Rh2 (GRh2), a ginseng-derived bioactive compound, exhibits antitumor potential, but its efficacy and mechanisms in PC remain unclear.
Methods: PC3 cells were treated with GRh2 to assess proliferation (IC50 calculation), migration, and invasion.

Bladder cancer (BC) is a disease that predominantly affects older adults, with aging playing a critical role in its onset and progression. Age-associated phenomena, including immunosenescence and chronic inflammation, form a pro-tumor milieu, while genomic instability and epigenetic drift further increase cancer risk. The review highlights the dual role of DNA methylation in BC: global hypomethylation can activate transposable elements and oncogenes, whereas focal hypermethylation silences tumor-suppressor genes like CDKN2A, especially detrimental in older tissues that rely on these genes for senescence control.
