Recently, a HT1 protein has been identified which causes continuous opening of stomata because of its kinase activity. However, reversible interaction between MAP4/12 and HT1 protein acts as a CO/bicarbonate sensor and causes the closing of stomata by inhibiting HT1 kinase activity.

Pancreatic β-cell function requires precise regulation of insulin secretory vesicles (ISVs), yet the redox heterogeneity within mature ISVs remains poorly defined. Here, we implement a novel oxidation-sensing system using NPY-fused DsRed1-E5 (Timer) targeted to mature ISVs in INS-1E and human Endoc-βH5 β-cell models. Leveraging Timer's oxidative color transition from green (Low-oxidative) to yellow-red (High-oxidative), supported by independent measurements using the established redox sensor Grx1-roGFP2, we resolve distinct ISV subpopulations.

Ion-selective electrodes (ISEs) are widely used in many industries, with recent research focusing on their miniaturization by replacing the liquid filling solutions with solid-contacts. Solution-processing is the preferred method for preparing solid-contact ISEs (SC-ISEs) due to its ease and scalability. However, while there are many solution-processable cationic SC-ISEs, this remains a challenge for anionic SC-ISEs due to poorer compatibility with the solid-contacts.

Brown adipose tissue (BAT) thermogenesis dissipates energy through heat production and thereby it opposes metabolic disease. It is mediated by mitochondrial membrane uncoupling, yet the mechanisms sustaining the mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm) in brown adipocytes are poorly understood. Here we show that isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) activity and the expression of the soluble adenylate cyclase 10 (ADCY10), a CO/bicarbonate sensor residing in mitochondria, are upregulated in BAT of cold-exposed mice.

Alterations in pH are a hallmark in several pathologies including cancer, ischemia, and inflammation. Non-invasive magnetic resonance methods to measure pH offer a new approach for early diagnosis of diseases characterized by acid-base imbalances. The hyperpolarization with parahydrogen-induced polarization (PHIP) enhances inherently low signals in magnetic resonance experiments by several orders of magnitude and offers a suitable platform to obtain biocompatible markers in less than one minute.
