Primary intestinal lymphangiectasia (Waldmann's disease) is a rare exudative enteropathy without precisely assessed infectious risk. We report the case of a 49-year-old male patient with meningitis and cerebral vasculitis due to Cryptococcus neoformans complicating Waldmann's disease diagnosed 12 years ago. The treatment combined liposomal amphotericin B, 3 mg/kg daily plus flucytosine 25 mg/kg/6 h, both intravenously during 15 days, then fluconazole 800 mg daily during 8 weeks, and finally 200 mg daily indefinitely. Dexamethasone 0.4 mg/kg daily during the first week was gradually decreased over 2 months. The outcome was good, and the patient is still followed 3 years later without any recurrence.

Several studies have described immune responses in the teleost brain and meninges during infection, however, fundamental studies that systematically dissect how different regions of the brain maintain immune homeostasis in teleosts are missing. Here we present an in-depth investigation of the immune status of the brain parenchyma and meninges of juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) at the steady state. We dissected four parenchymal brain regions including olfactory bulbs (OB), telencephalon (Tel), optic tectum (OT) and cerebellum (Cer) and its corresponding dorsal meninges.

Sleep disorders encompass a range of diseases and symptoms that disrupt individual sleep patterns, degrade sleep quality, and diminish sleep efficiency. Currently, the mechanisms governing sleep regulation and the etiology of sleep disorders remain unclear, leading to clinical treatments that are primarily symptomatic due to the absence of precise intervention methods. Recent studies suggest that glymphatic-meningeal lymphatic route is responsible for the clearance of macromolecular metabolites from the brain, thus playing a pivotal role in maintaining sleep homeostasis and circadian rhythm.

The high incidence and prevalence of herpes infections pose a significant health burden worldwide. Herpes simplex virus infections are the cause of herpes labialis, genital herpes or herpes keratitis and in rare cases life-threatening herpes encephalitis, meningitis or disseminated disease. After primary infection herpes simplex viruses (HSVes) establish latency in the trigeminal and sacral ganglia and at least 30% of patients experience clinically manifestant recurrences for life.

The hypervirulent serotype III, sequence type 17 (ST-17) strain COH1 is strongly associated with late-onset disease due to its unique set of virulence factors. However, genetic manipulation of ST-17 strains is notoriously challenging, limiting the ability to study key pathogenic genes.

Background: TERT promoter mutation is a rare biomarker in meningiomas associated with aberrant TERT expression and reduced progression-free survival. Although high TERT expression is characteristic of tumours with TERT promoter mutations, it has also been observed in tumours with wildtype TERT promoters. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and prognostic association of TERT expression in meningiomas.
