Article Abstract

This work demonstrated that melatonin increases continuously in seeds, particularly seed coats, during berry ripening. Exogenous melatonin treatments significantly increased the proanthocyanidin (PA) content, partially through ethylene signaling, in seed coats. expression exhibited patterns similar to melatonin accumulation over time, which was largely induced by melatonin treatment in seed coats during berry ripening. Additionally, VvMYB14 bound to the MBS element of the promoter to activate expression. overexpression largely upregulated expression of , and and increased the PA content in grape seed-derived calli. Similar increases in and expression and PA content were found in -overexpressing seeds. It was also observed that overexpression increased ethylene production and thereby induced expression of , which bound to the ERF element of the promoter and activated its expression. Additionally, suppression reduced the overexpression-induced increases in expression of and and PA content. Further experiments revealed that melatonin-induced increases in the expression of , , and and PA accumulation were significantly reduced in -suppressing grape calli and leaves. Collectively, VvMYB14 mediates melatonin-induced PA biosynthesis by directly transactivating expression and indirectly upregulating expression via VvERF104.

Plant seeds have evolved diverse dormancy types and regulatory mechanisms to adapt to environmental conditions and seasonal changes. As a commonly used rootstock for cultivated pears, faces challenges in seedling production and large-scale cultivation due to limited understanding of seed dormancy mechanisms. In this study, we report that seeds exhibit non-deep physiological dormancy, with seed coats playing a pivotal regulatory role.

Seeds of Sophora japonica in Nanjing during the recommended period typically exhibit permeable seed coats. It is imperative to comprehend the water absorption characteristics of the permeable seeds, as water uptake represents a critical step in seed germination. This study employed an integrated approach combining blocking experiments, scanning electron microscopy, staining tests, and magnetic resonance imaging to investigate water entry sites and movement patterns in permeable seeds.

Aim Of The Study: Soufeng sanjie formula (SF), composed by scolopendra, scorpion, astragali radix and black soybean seed coats, is an in-hospital preparation of traditional Chinese medicine used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). It has been demonstrated to have a prominent effect on relieving the symptoms of collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) mice after 1 month of administration. This study aimed to evaluate the effect and mechanism of SF on ameliorating bone erosion in CIA mice and RA patients.

Kiwifruit, as a functionally dioecious fruit crop, necessitates pollination for female plants to achieve fruit set. In this study, exogenous application of the plant growth regulator 2,4-D successfully induced parthenocarpy, resulting in significantly higher fruit set rates compared to natural pollination while producing seedless fruits containing only empty seed coats. Through transcriptome analysis of the flower and young fruit, 10 key candidate genes were identified.
