Zoos and aquaria have the ethical responsibility to provide animals under their care with conditions that promote good welfare. This study evaluated the combined influence of human presence and environmental factors on the behaviour of zoo-housed Asian small-clawed otters (). Data collection was conducted on a pair hosted at Pistoia Zoo (Italy). Data were collected from July to September 2020 (over 14 days). We video-recorded the otters' behaviours, using the continuous focal animal sampling, obtaining 42 h of observation per subject. The otters displayed a wide array of species-specific behaviours. Compared to previous captive studies, the subjects engaged less in locomotion, food-related and affiliative behaviours, and more in vigilance. Human-animal interactions were limited, and mostly elicited neutral or positive responses, except for begging behaviours performed towards caregivers. Time of day and animal identity were the main significant predictors for behaviours. No effects of visitor presence or background noise were detected. Nonetheless, increasing enrichment use could stimulate food-related behaviours, and reduce vigilance and begging. This study confirms the importance of applying an integrated approach to analyse the complexity of otters' experiences, and provides insights to guide husbandry improvements.

Background: Sinusitis is a common respiratory infection increasingly associated with antibiotic-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, posing significant treatment challenges. The emergence of methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) in sinus infections necessitates comprehensive profiling of resistance patterns to guide effective therapy.

The fourth leading cause of cancer-related fatalities in the USA is pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), a particularly deadly illness that is resistant to immunotherapy. One of the Main Obstacles in cancer research is developing better treatments for PDAC, which has the lowest 5-year survival rate of any malignancy. Anti-CTLA-4, anti-PD-L1, and anti-PD-1 immune checkpoint blockade medications also have poor results in these patients, which may indicate the presence of other immunosuppressive mechanisms in the pancreatic tumor microenvironment (TME).

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a persistent organic pollutant with toxic effects on human health and ecosystems. In this study, the performance of MWCNT-OH functionalized with iron nanoparticles (MWCNT-OH@Fe) using sugarcane bagasse extract as a reducing agent (green synthesis) was evaluated for BPA adsorption. The kinetics are fast, between 10 and 20 min in the range of concentrations evaluated and the resistance to external film diffusion (external film mass transfer) identified as the rate-limiting step of the process.

Vascularization of implanted biomaterials is critical to reconstructive surgery and tissue engineering. Ultimately, the goal is to promote a rapidly perfusable hierarchical microvasculature that persists with time and can meet underlying tissue needs. We have previously shown that using a microsurgical technique, termed micropuncture (MP), in combination with porous granular hydrogel scaffolds (GHS) fabricated via interlinking hydrogel microparticles (microgels) results in a rapidly perfusable patterned microvasculature.
