Aerosol optical depths of satellites and meteorological factors have been widely used to estimate concentrations of surface particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter ≤ 2.5 μm. Research on a high time resolution and high-precision PM concentration estimation method is of great significance for timely and accurate air quality prediction and air pollution prevention and mitigation. Himawari-8 AOD hour product and ERA5 meteorological reanalysis data were used as estimation variables, and a GTWR-XGBoost combined model was proposed to estimate hourly PM concentration in Sichuan Province. The results showed that:① the performance of the proposed combination model was better than that of the KNN, RF, AdaBoost, GTWR, GTWR-KNN, GTWR-RF, and GTWR-AdaBoost models in the full dataset; the fitting accuracy indexes , MAE, and RMSE were 0.96, 3.43 μg·m, and 5.52 μg·m, respectively; and the verification accuracy indexes , MAE, and RMSE were 0.9, 4.98 μg·m, and 7.92 μg·m, respectively. ② The model had a high goodness of fit ( of the whole dataset was 0.96, and of different times ranged from 0.91 to 0.98) when applied to the estimation of PM concentration hour. It showed that the model had good time stability for hourly estimation and could provide accurate estimation information for regional air quality assessment. ③ In terms of time, the annual average PMhourly concentration estimation showed an inverted U-shaped trend. It began to increase gradually at 09:00 am to a peak of 44.56 μg·m at 11:00 and then gradually decreased. Moreover, the seasonal variation was very obvious, with winter>spring>autumn>summer. ④ In terms of spatial distribution, it showed the characteristics of high in the east and low in the west and a high degree of local pollution.

Most of the United States (US) population resides in cities, where they are subjected to the urban heat island effect. In this study, we develop a method to estimate hourly air temperatures at resolution, improving exposure assessment of US population when compared to existing gridded products. We use an extensive network of personal weather stations to capture the intra-urban variability.

A Wideband Integrated Bioaerosol Sensor (WIBS) was used in conjunction with chemical tracer analysis for the first time during the 2022-2023 grass pollen season in Melbourne, Australia. WIBS detected continuous levels of bioaerosol throughout the campaign. From 18th November to 7th December 2022, fluorescent particles accounted for an average of 10% of total particles in number, corresponding to an estimated 0.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAerosol acidity (pH) plays a critical role in atmospheric chemical processes, secondary aerosol formation, and urban air quality. Based on five years of hourly observations (2019-2023) in subtropical Dongguan, this study investigates the variability and thermodynamic regulation of aerosol pH, with a focus on aerosol liquid water content (ALWC), hydrogen ion (H) concentrations, and their interactions. Secondary inorganic aerosols (SIA), including NH, SO, NO and Cl, accounted for 92 ± 4 % of total water-soluble inorganic ions (WSIIs), with sufficient total NH (TNH) and non-volatile cations (NVCs) available to neutralize acidic species.

Previous studies on estimating human exposure to PCBs often employed daily or hourly fixed intakes, failing to consider the irregularity of PCBs accumulation under a real consumption scenario. Therefore, this study aimed at simulating actual consumer behavior, estimating the specific dates and quantities of PCB-153 intake, and combining this approach with a pharmacokinetic model to estimate the human exposure to PCB-153 through Tuna consumption. A physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) model was used to predict the accumulation of PCB-153 in six tissue compartments of a hypothetical woman for a period of 10 years.
