Article Abstract

2 dimensional (2D) dodecagonal boron nitride (D_BN) and graphenylene are being investigated to understand their potential applications in water purification. First principle calculations are performed to evaluate the water purification properties of D_BN and graphenylene. It is found that Na exothermically adsorbs on pores in D_BN, where the transition state energy via pores is calculated to be 0.03 eV. This indicates that Na can pass through D_BN pores more selectively than water molecules and other ions. In contrast, in the case of graphenylene, Na is repelled, and H O exothermically adsorbs on pores, where the transition state energy via pores is calculated to be 1.00 eV. Therefore, this demonstrates that D_BN exhibits an excellent potential for ion-sieving membranes, while graphenylene exhibits an excellent potential for reverse osmosis membranes. Consequently, this study provides valuable insights into the potential use of D_BN and graphenylene in water purification applications.

Background: To improve the molecular diagnostic yield for Aspergillus spp. from respiratory samples, we developed and evaluated a new DNA extraction method directly from respiratory samples combined with in-house Aspergillus real-time PCR.

Methods: We developed a method using beads and resin, where a sample is centrifuged to separate the supernatant and pellet.

The efficient and sustainable remediation of contaminated water calls for catalytic systems that must clean broadly, endure widely, and last repeatedly. In this regard, we report the development of sulfonate-functionalized core-shell hydrogel beads embedded with synthesized gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) that exhibit intrinsic oxidase-like activity without requiring external light or chemical oxidants. The sulfonate ligands modulate the surface electronic environment of the AuNPs, facilitating singlet oxygen generation via a nonplasmonic, radiationless mechanism.

Flammulina velutipes is a major edible fungus with abundant yield and mature industrial production technology. Its main functional component, Flammulina velutipes polysaccharide, has huge development and utilization value. In light of the current uncertainty regarding the mechanisms by which Flammulina velutipes polysaccharides prevent colonic cell pyroptosis, the mechanisms of ultrasound-extracted Flammulina velutipes polysaccharide (FVPU2) in inhibiting colonic cell pyroptosis in mice were investigated, and compared with Flammulina velutipes polysaccharide extracted via hot water extraction (FVPH2).

The hydrolysis of biomass in fermentative processes often faces the difficulty of generating inhibitory products. Its reduction or removal is essential to enable the use of agro-industrial waste, such as cashew apple bagasse. Therefore, this study aimed to find an optimized condition for the hydrolysis of cashew apple bagasse by subcritical water and to introduce an in-line pre-purification process.

The consumption of water of low microbiological quality can be detrimental and may cause significant health issues. Thus, amplicon sequencing can be an advantageous method to observe bacterial diversity in water. This study aimed to understand the complex bacterial communities present in natural mineral water packaged in 20 L returnable containers through amplicon sequencing.
