Article Abstract

Isocitric acid (ICA) refers to a group of promising regulators of energy metabolism which has antistress, antihypoxic, and antioxidant activities. In this paper, we reported a process of ICA production from rapeseed oil using yeast VKM Y-2373 in a 500-L fermentor. The producer synthesized 64.1 g/L ICA with a product yield of 0.72 g/g and a productivity 0.54 g/L·h. We also developed an effective purification method, including a cell separation, clarification, concentration, acidification, and crystallization process, which resulted in the formation of the crystals of monopotassium salt of ICA with a purity of 99.0-99.9%. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on an ICA production process at an upscaled bioreactor level.

Introduction: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), comprising Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), is a chronic and relapsing inflammatory disorder of the gastrointestinal tract. Current diagnostic approaches are invasive, costly, and time-consuming, underscoring the need for non-invasive, accurate diagnostic methods.

Methods: We conducted a targeted metabolomic analysis of 49 metabolites related to central carbon metabolism in urinary samples from individuals with IBD and control group.

In this study, we established a mouse colitis model using DSS to investigate the impact of curcumin on gut injury, the intestinal microbiota, and fecal metabolites. The findings indicated that curcumin effectively mitigated weight loss and colon shortening caused by colitis, enhanced the expression of anti-inflammatory factor mRNA ( < 0.05), and suppressed the expression of pro-inflammatory factors (, , and mRNA; < 0.

Background: The development of adrenocortical adenoma (ACA) affects the endocrine homeostasis of the patient and causes various pathophysiological abnormalities. At this stage, the diagnosis of the disease and the distinguishing of adenoma subtypes in patients with ACA remains an unresolved clinical issue. Our study aimed to identify biomarkers for adenoma subtypes and their altered metabolic profiles.

Background: Itaconic acid is a valuable platform chemical with applications in polymer synthesis and other industrial sectors. Microbial fermentation offers a sustainable production route, involving two fungi such as Aspergillus terreus and Ustilago maydis. However, their employment in industrial bioprocesses for itaconic acid production is characterized by several challenges.

As a commonly known aggressive liver-related manifestation within the spectrum of metabolic syndrome with a significant risk of progressing to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) is closely intertwined with obesity, insulin resistance, and dyslipidemia. Although the gut microbiota is implicated in MASH progression, the underlying mechanisms require further investigation. In this study, we sought to combine the analysis of the liver transcriptome, circulating metabolome, and gut microbiota to investigate the potential molecular mechanisms underlying the reciprocal regulation between gut microbiota and liver immune signaling.
