Whispering-gallery-mode crystalline resonators currently maintain the best quality factor () record; however, compact on-chip packaging is still a challenge, although various coupling architectures have been developed. Here, a chemical etching method is proposed to fabricate a miniaturized tapered fiber waveguide on silicon substrate. The Marangoni effect is implemented to reduce the surface roughness of the cone region. The optical loss of 0.1 dB/mm is obtained, and the of the on-chip crystalline resonator exceeds 10. Additionally, thermoelectric cooler (TEC) is implanted in the package to actively customize the temperature, and the temperature response of 18 pm/°C is consistent with the theoretical calculation.

The miniaturization of separation platforms marks a transformative shift in analytical science, merging microfabrication, automation, and intelligent data integration to meet rising demands for portability, sustainability, and precision. This review critically synthesizes recent technological advances reshaping the field-from microinjection and preconcentration modules to compact, high-sensitivity detection systems including ultraviolet-visible (UV/Vis), fluorescence (FL), electrochemical detection (ECD), and mass spectrometry (MS). The integration of microcontrollers, AI-enhanced calibration routines, and IoT-enabled feedback loops has led to the rise of self-regulating analytical devices capable of real-time decision-making and autonomous operation.

The rapidly growing computational demands of artificial intelligence (AI) and complex optimization tasks are increasingly straining conventional electronic architectures, driving the search for novel, energy-efficient processing paradigms. Photonic computing, which harnesses the unique properties of light to perform computation, has emerged as a compelling alternative. This perspective highlights a key advancement: a versatile nonlinear optoelectronic engine based on integrated photodetectors and micro-ring modulators (PD + MRM).

The high extinction ratio mode (de)multiplexer is a pivotal component in high capacity mode-division multiplexing data communication and nascent on-chip intermodal acousto-optic modulators. Up to now, high performance on-chip mode (de)multiplexers are still lacking for integrated AOMs on the lithium niobate-on-insulator platform. In this paper, we propose and demonstrate an innovative scheme to achieve high extinction ratio signal routing for acousto-optic modulation, by leveraging a two-mode (de)multiplexer in conjunction with a high- racetrack microring resonator.

Controlling the symmetry of optical and mechanical waves is pivotal to their full exploitation in technological applications and topology-linked fundamental physics experiments. Leveraging on the control of orbital angular momentum, we introduce here a device forming acoustic vortices which can impart an orbital angular momentum modulation at super-high-frequency on reflected light beams. Originated by shape-engineering of a single-contact bulk acoustic wave resonator, acoustic vortices are generated in a wide band of frequencies around 4 GHz with topological charge ranging from 1 to beyond 13 tunable by the device geometry and/or excitation frequency.

The development of compact, CMOS-compatible gas sensors is critical for advancing real-time environmental monitoring and industrial diagnostics. In this study, we present a detailed numerical investigation of integrated photonic waveguide designs-such as ridge and slot-optimized for overtone-based gas spectroscopy in the near-infrared range. By evaluating both the evanescent-field confinement and curvature-induced losses across multiple silicon-on-insulator platforms, we identify optimal geometries that maximize light-analyte interactions while minimizing bending attenuation.
