Background: Circumcision is a widely practiced procedure with cultural and medical significance. However, certain penile abnormalities-such as hypospadias or webbed penis-may contraindicate the procedure and require specialized care. In low-resource settings, limited access to pediatric urologists often leads to missed or delayed diagnoses.

Background Although advances in care have improved cystic fibrosis (CF) outcomes in higher-income countries (HICs), the situation remains alarming in lower-income countries (LICs). Methods People with CF (pwCF) enrolled in the European Cystic Fibrosis Society Patient Registry (ECFSPR) and carrying at least one F508del variant allele were evaluated in 2017 and in 2022 for predicted percent forced expiratory volume (ppFEV1), underweight status, and chronic Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Pa) infection, according to the gross national income (GNI) per capita divided into three terciles (low-income countries, LICs; middle-income countries, MICs; and high-income countries, HICs). Survival was evaluated in the periods 2013-2017 and 2018-2022.

Predicting Unplanned Readmission Risk in Patients With Cirrhosis: Complication-Aware Dynamic Classifier Selection Approach.

JMIR Med Inform

September 2025

College of Medical Informatics, Chongqing Medical University, 1 Yixueyuan Road, Yuzhong District, Chongqing, 400016, China, 86 13500303273.

Background: Cirrhosis is a leading cause of noncancer deaths in gastrointestinal diseases, resulting in high hospitalization and readmission rates. Early identification of high-risk patients is vital for proactive interventions and improving health care outcomes. However, the quality and integrity of real-world electronic health records (EHRs) limit their utility in developing risk assessment tools.

Topic: The aim of this study was to assess the meta-analysis of the studies comparing transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy (TransPRK) to classical photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) (mechanical or alcohol-assisted).

Clinical Relevance: While PRK is a well-established procedure, TransPRK, a newer, minimally invasive technique may reduce surgery time and improve patient outcomes. Comparing these techniques helps optimize surgical choices.

Discovery of -(thiazol-2-yl) Furanamide Derivatives as Potent Orally Efficacious AR Antagonists with Low BBB Permeability.

State Key Laboratory of Advanced Drug Delivery and Release Systems, College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, Zhejiang 310058, China.

Resistance-conferring mutations in the androgen receptor (AR) ligand-binding pocket (LBP) compromise the effectiveness of clinically approved orthosteric AR antagonists. Targeting the dimerization interface pocket (DIP) of AR presents a promising therapeutic approach. In this study, we report the design and optimization of -(thiazol-2-yl) furanamide derivatives as novel AR DIP antagonists, among which was the most promising candidate.
