The principal purpose of this research was to study the effects of glycerol monolaurate (GML) on the production performance; egg quality; health state of the oviduct, ovary and ileum; and gut microbiota of laying hens in the later stage. The laying hens were randomly assigned to two groups: a control group and an experiment group, for which 1000 mg/kg of GML was added to a control diet. The results showed that GML increased the laying rate, average egg weight, albumen height, yolk color and Haugh unit and decreased the feed conversion ratio and defective eggs (p < 0.05). GML increased the intestinal villi height and the ratio of villus height to crypt depth (p < 0.05). Moreover, GML improved the contents of cytokines in the oviduct, ovary and ileum mucosa; ameliorated the expression of TLR2, TLR4, MyD88, IL-4, IL-1β and TNF-α; and increased the expression of Occludin and Muc-2 in the ileal mucosa. The supplementation of GML increased the volatile fatty acids in the cecal contents, such as acetic acid and propionic acid, and up-regulated Bacteroides (p < 0.01) and Alistipes (p < 0.05) richness in the cecal contents. In summary, GML improved production performance, egg quality and immunity; ameliorated the health status of the oviduct, ovary and ileum; enhanced the intestinal barrier function; improved the content of intestinal volatile fatty acids; and regulated the abundance of cecal flora.

3D shape defect detection plays an important role in autonomous industrial inspection. However, accurate detection of anomalies remains challenging due to the complexity of multimodal sensor data, especially when both color and structural information are required. In this work, we propose a lightweight inter-modality feature prediction framework that effectively utilizes multimodal fused features from the inputs of RGB, depth and point clouds for efficient 3D shape defect detection.

Silk fibroin (SF)-based flexible electronic/photonic materials have gained great attention in wearable devices and soft sensors. However, it remains challenging to understand the molecular interaction mechanisms and subsequently fabricate SF-based flexible materials that exhibit fluorescence, humidity sensitivity, and conductivity properties. In this study, by incorporating lanthanide europium ion (Eu), the design and fabrication of a flexible, fluorescent, and conductive SF membrane was proposed.

Background: Primary liver cancer, particularly hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), poses significant clinical challenges due to late-stage diagnosis, tumor heterogeneity, and rapidly evolving therapeutic strategies. While systematic reviews and meta-analyses are essential for updating clinical guidelines, their labor-intensive nature limits timely evidence synthesis.
Objective: This study proposes an automated literature screening workflow powered by large language models (LLMs) to accelerate evidence synthesis for HCC treatment guidelines.

Argemone mexicana is one of the known herbaceous plants hosting bioactive isoquinoline alkaloids. In the current study, an endophytic fungal isolate was studied for anti-inflammatory potential and the identification of its bioactive molecule. An endophytic fungus AMEF-14 was obtained from this plant and identified as Cladosporium ramotenellum based on microscopy and molecular tools.

This work assesses the current characterization framework of single-use personal protective equipment (PPE) per recognized consensus standards and presents a novel quantitative approach to refining characterization of barrier materials and predicting PPE performance. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and image analysis software (Diameter J) were used to examine the microscopic fiber and pore structure of filter layers of surgical N95 filtering facepiece respirators, before and after exposure to chemicals used in decontamination modalities (vaporized hydrogen peroxide or ozone). The effect of porosity on penetration was assessed by bacterial filtration efficiency (BFE) testing.
