Prohibitins (PHBs) are a class of highly evolutionarily conserved proteins that widely distribute in prokaryotes and eukaryotes. PHBs function in cell growth and proliferation or differentiation, regulating metabolism and signaling pathways. PHBs have different subcellular localization in eukaryotes, but they are mainly located in mitochondria. In the mitochondria, PHBs stabilize the structure of the mitochondrial membrane and regulate mitochondrial autophagy, mitochondrial dynamics, mitochondrial biogenesis and quality control, and mitochondrial unfolded protein response. PHBs has shown to be associated with many diseases, such as mitochondria diseases, cancers, infectious diseases, and so on. Some molecule targets of PHBs can interfere with the occurrence and development of diseases. Therefore, this review clarifies the functions of PHBs in mitochondria, and provides a summary of the potential values in clinics.

The study explores novel electrospun poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) systems for pheophorbide derivative (PheoD) photosensitizers delivery in anticancer photodynamic therapy (PDT). The photophysical properties of PheoD within PHB matrix and the resulting impact on polymer morphology (SEM, AFM), supramolecular structure (XRD, EPR), mechanical behavior, in vitro release, cytotoxicity assay on A431 cells, and antimicrobial properties were investigated. It was shown, that the difference in the PheoD's radical does not affect PHB's semicrystalline nature and amorphous region's structure but causes significant changes in the morphological characteristics of the surface.

Prior research posits that for African Americans, engaging in poor health behaviors (PHBs), such as smoking or drinking, buffers the negative effects of stressful life events. This study explored how PHBs exacerbate (double jeopardy) or buffer reactivity to daily family stressors among African Americans and European Americans ( = 1,931) ages 34-84 from the National Study of Daily Experiences (NSDE II). During 8 days of telephone interviews, respondents reported on family stressors, health behaviors (number of cigarettes and alcoholic beverages), affect, and physical symptoms.

Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) is a biodegradable plastic synthesized by several bacterial species, regarded as a sustainable alternative to petroleum-derived plastics owing to its biodegradability, biocompatibility, and renewable production processes. Although PHB exhibits inherent biodegradability, its natural degradation can be slow and inefficient in real-world conditions. This study employed the Adaptive Laboratory Evolution (ALE) method to enhance the degradation of PHB in natural environments.

Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are emerging, promising sustainable biobased, biodegradable polymers with strong potential to replace conventional plastics in packaging, agricultural, cosmetics, and biomedical applications. In this study, we investigate the crystallization behavior of two key PHA typespolyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) and poly-(3-hydroxybutyrate--3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV)under both isothermal and nonisothermal conditions using controlled hyperthermal cycles. Isothermal analyses were performed following rapid hypercooling at 500 °C/min to isolate crystallization kinetics, effectively minimizing interference from the cooling stage.

Background: Collaborative care models (CoCM) improve both depression and cardiometabolic outcomes, but the mechanisms driving these effects remain unclear.
Objective: To determine whether changes in depressive symptoms, positive health behaviors (PHBs), body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference mediate the effect of an adapted CoCM on glycemic control among adults with cardiometabolic risk in India.
