A 15-year-old neutered male mixed breed Domestic Shorthair cat was presented for a rapidly growing, intraoral soft gingival mass on the left mandibular region. The neoplastic tissue consisted histologically of two distinct malignant cell populations: spindle cells arranged in bands and epithelioid cells arranged in cords. A few multinucleated giant cells were scattered among the neoplastic cells. Spindle cells and multinucleated giant cells strongly expressed vimentin while epithelial cells strongly expressed pancytokeratins. On the basis of the histological and immunohistochemical results, a diagnosis of oral carcinosarcoma was made. After 2 months, due to the extent of disease and poor prognosis, the cat was euthanized. Necropsy revealed a markedly enlarged, multilobulated white-pink neoplastic mass that had originated from the left side of the sublingual region and involved the coronoid process of the left mandibular bone. The cut surface of the enlarged left submandibular lymph node was glistening, whitish-tan in colour with a multinodular appearance, suggestive of metastasis and confirmed by histological examination. Oral carcinosarcoma is uncommonly recorded in humans and dogs and, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case in a cat.

Functional reconstruction of large mandibular defects, especially in young patients, presents a significant clinical challenge. The ideal approach should not only restore skeletal contour but also address nerve deficits and facilitate final occlusal rehabilitation, all while minimizing morbidity. Introduction: Patients with hemifacial microsomia exhibit varying degrees of mandibular asymmetry. The commercial plates used during bilateral sagittal split osteotomy (BSSO) surgery are often not tailored to individual patients and may lack sufficient fixation stability, increasing the risk of mandibular relapse. Age inference is a key focus of forensic work, and traditional dental age inference methods require individuals to have a complete dental arch. However, congenital or acquired tooth loss may lead to random tooth loss in individuals, resulting in bias in age prediction. To address this issue, we validated and modified Bedek's tooth age inference method (a method for inferring the age of a population with missing teeth) for the first time in the Chinese population of children with complete dentition, congenital tooth loss, and acquired tooth loss, and constructed two new machine learning based tooth age inference methods (unilateral mandible and bilateral mandible tooth age estimation models) in this population.
