β-Elemene is the major constituent of the antitumor drugs elemene extract approved in China. By incorporating macrocyclization strategy into the β-elemene skeleton, we designed a series of novel macrocycles retaining three key carbon-carbon double bonds. Four different methods have been successfully developed for these challenging ring systems. A total of twenty-eight 14- to 24-membered macrocycles were synthesized. Most of these macrocycles exhibited good antitumor activity against several cancer cell lines (PC-3, A549, U87MG, U251 and HCT116), with up to 40 folds improvement of activity comparing to β-elemene. Additionally, X-ray single crystal structures of compounds Ic, Ip, and IIh were successfully solved as the proof of macrocycle formation. The results warrant the further investigation of this novel class macrocycles in pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamics studies, which will be reported in due course.

The ryanodine receptors (RyRs) represent an optimal target for insecticide development. To explore novel structures of RyRs agonists, a series of compounds containing 1,2,4-oxadiazole were designed and synthesized based on the RyRs structure. The compounds were confirmed by H and C nuclear magnetic resonance as well as high-resolution mass spectrometry.

In this review, the primary aim is to examine non-azole ring systems that have analgesic activity and, where applicable, to establish structure - activity relationships (SARs) with the nine major pathways, prostaglandin synthesis inhibition, opioid receptor modulation, sodium channel blockade, enhancement of serotonin and norepinephrine levels, cannabinoid receptor (CBR) binding, N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonism, transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily V member 1 (TRPV1) antagonism, and P2X purinergic receptor blockade, have been described for pain relief. Analgesic effects have been observed in compounds containing ring systems such as piperidine, piperazine, pyridine, pyridazine, pyrazine, morpholine, thiomorpholine, pyran, thiopyran, indane, benzofuran, benzothiophene, quinoline, quinazoline, and chromene. These ring systems were classified in the whole study, first according to their molecular weights and then by bioisosteric similarity as same as first part.

Background: Current management of pediatric cutaneous abscesses involves either spontaneous healing by secondary intention or suturing through tertiary intention, which are often lengthy processes that cause discomfort and distress among children. As it is noninvasive and simple, a novel zipper device is widely used for the primary wound closure of surgical incisions.
Objective: To describe the effectiveness of novel zipper device use for pediatric cutaneous abscess wound closure in an outpatient context.

Background: Soil salinization represents a critical global challenge to agricultural productivity, profoundly impacting crop yields and threatening food security. Plant salt-responsive is complex and dynamic, making it challenging to fully elucidate salt tolerance mechanism and leading to gaps in our understanding of how plants adapt to and mitigate salt stress.
Results: Here, we conduct high-resolution time-series transcriptomic and metabolomic profiling of the extremely salt-tolerant maize inbred line, HLZY, and the salt-sensitive elite line, JI853.

Human identification and its involved science are present in the daily context of legal medicine, criminal justice, and humanitarian issues. The development of a mirror delamination method for fingermark enhancement on silver mirror substrates has resulted in an affordable and efficient alternative to obtain good-quality fingermark images for forensic investigations. However, efficiency and sensitivity comparisons between the novel method and established techniques are necessary to understand the limiting factors and practical applications.
