Fat embolism syndrome (FES) is a known complication of long bone fractures, frequently presenting with hypoxemia. Diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH) is a rare complication of the condition. Imaging characteristics are frequently non-specific to FES, as are findings on bronchoalveolar lavage. No specific treatment exists, though steroids and albumin can be considered. We present the case of an 18 year old male who presented to the emergency room after a motorcycle collision. His CXR was initially clear, but he developed pulmonary infiltrates, a new oxygen requirement, and hemoptysis. Bronchoscopy confirmed DAH by serial lavage, and BAL was notable for abundant lipid-laden macrophages by Oil-red-O stain He improved with methylprednisolone and albumin. This case highlights the need for a high index of suspicion both for FES, and for DAH as a complication that may develop days after trauma. We review treatment paradigm for this serious condition.

Diffuse alveolar hemorrhage is a rare but fatal manifestation of SLE, typically reported in well-established diagnoses of SLE. DAH itself as a presenting symptom is quite rare. In this case, we present a 24-year-old pregnant female at 10 weeks of gestation without a history of SLE presenting with DAH.

Background: H1N1 influenza virus can cause diffuse alveolar damage, such as pneumonia and pulmonary fibrosis, when it infects the respiratory tract. Metformin not only improves chronic inflammation but also has direct anti-inflammatory effects. Therefore, the focus of this study was on the molecular mechanism and regulatory mechanism of metformin against influenza virus in alleviating lung disease.

Post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 (PASC or "long COVID") and chronic fatigue syndrome/myalgic encephalitis (CFS/ME) share symptoms such as exertional dyspnea. We used exercise oxygen pathway analysis, comprising six parameters of oxygen transport and utilization, to identify limiting mechanisms in both conditions. Invasive cardiopulmonary exercise testing was performed on 15 PASC patients, 11 CFS/ME patients, and 11 controls.
