To avoid adverse drug reactions associated with injection, off-label nebulization of Tanreqing (TRQ) injection is often used in China to treat respiratory diseases. However, the aerodynamic properties and lung availability of TRQ aerosols remain largely uninvestigated. This study aimed to investigate the size distribution of TRQ aerosols and to compare the pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution of two compounds from TRQ (baicalin and oroxyloside) after transnasal aerosol inhalation and intravenous administration. Furthermore, this study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of TRQ against lipopolysaccharide-induced lung inflammation. The Dv(50) and transmission of TRQ aerosols were 2.512 μm and 74.867%, respectively. The C of baicalin and oroxyloside in rat plasma after inhalation was lower than that after intravenous injection. After inhalation, the area under the curve (AUC) of baicalin and oroxyloside in tissues (lung, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, and trachea) was 7.9-115.3 and 9.5-16.0 times that observed after intravenous administration, respectively. Baicalin and oroxyloside maintained high concentrations 4 h after inhalation, but only 1 h after intravenous injection. The mean lung-to-plasma concentration ratios of baicalin and oroxyloside were 287.6 and 49.9 times higher than with intravenous administration. Inhaled TRQ achieved the same effect against lipopolysaccharide-induced lung inflammation in mice at doses of only 1/16-1/8 of those administered intravenously. The results indicate that TRQ inhalation is a promising alternative to intravenous injections for the treatment of respiratory infection.

An integrated platform of screening multi-compounds and evaluating bio-affinity is critical to explain the molecular mechanism of complex herbal medicine on various diseases. Here we developed a micro- and multi-chamber membrane separation electrophoresis system (MCMSE) based on the concept of bio-affinity, chamber-electrophoresis and membrane separation. It can enable simultaneous, rapid and high-throughput screening of multi- potential bioactive components in <15 min at low voltage (<35 V), which maintains the dynamic and original structure of biomacromolecules without immobilization.

An efficient and sustainable deep eutectic solvents-based ultrasound-assisted matrix solid phase dispersion (DES-UAMSPD) method was proposed for extracting the bioactive flavonoids in Scutellariae Radix (SR), with molecular sieve (ZSM-5) as dispersant and betaine-levulinic acid (Bet-Lea (1:2, 50 % water content)) as the effective extractant. The interaction mechanism of DES formation and extraction process was comprehensively elucidated by computer simulation techniques such as electrostatic potential (ESP) distributions, independent gradient model based on hirshfeld partition (IGMH) and frontier molecular orbitals theory. The response surface methodology experiments were conducted to optimize the extraction conditions.

Aims: The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a significant global health concern that affects millions of people worldwide. This virus targets the immune system, specifically CD4 cells, weakening the body's ability to combat infections and diseases.
Background: Scutellaria baicalensis, a plant of the genus Lamiaceae, and its root is the main part used in medicine.

Shengjiang Xiexin decoction (SXD), a well-known traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), was used to alleviate delayed-onset diarrhea induced by the chemotherapeutic agent irinotecan (CPT-11). Our previous study showed that SXD regulated multidrug resistance-associated protein 2 (Mrp-2) to alter the pharmacokinetics of CPT-11 and its metabolites. However, the pharmacodynamic constituents and the related quality markers of SXD are unclear.

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is an acute and diffuse pulmonary inflammation, characterized by severe hypoxic respiratory failure caused by inflammatory tissue damage, which is a common cause of respiratory failure. Currently, there is no treatment available that can prevent or reverse the devastating effects caused by these conditions. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of WRS on gut microbiota and the potential effect of gut microbiota on the treatment of lung disease by using a staphylococcal enterotoxin B (SEB)-induced ARDS model.
