Road dust, which consists of brake and tire wear, pavement particles, crustal material, semivolatile vehicle exhaust components, and natural organic matter, can contribute to both airborne particulate matter and urban runoff. To date, research has mainly focused on the health impact of road dust, but little work has been conducted to characterize its role as a reactive surface in the environment. Our group has previously shown that illuminated road dust is a source of singlet oxygen, an important environmental oxidant.

With growing concerns over fossil fuel depletion, environmental pollution, and the need for sustainable energy solutions, alternative renewable fuels have gained significant attention in the transportation sector. Biodiesel and ethanol are promising biofuels that can reduce dependence on conventional diesel and lower harmful emissions. However, challenges such as fuel compatibility and combustion inefficiencies limit their widespread adoption in compression ignition engines.

Brake wear particle (BWP) emissions are considered one of the dominant sources of particulate matter pollution in urban environments. BWP emissions have increased significantly under high-temperature conditions, emerging as a focal point of research interest. Pollution from road traffic contributes significantly to air pollution through pollutants from exhaust emissions (gases and particles) and non-exhaust emissions (tire wear particles, brake wear particles and the resuspension of road dust). This research examined the hazard of tire particles (TP) and in particular evaluated the effect of TP size on lung macrophages. TP were obtained by cryogenic grinding of a tire and subsequent sieving to obtain four groups of particles (TP70, TP30, TP15, TP5) of different sizes with average diameters of 107 µm, 55 µm, 22 µm, and 6 µm, respectively.

In cereal crops, the endosperm synthesizes large quantities of proteins, including storage proteins and functional factors essential for the accumulation of storage reserves. The unfolded protein response (UPR) monitors the folding of nascent polypeptides in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) to alleviate cellular stress. However, the molecular mechanisms linking the UPR to endosperm development in plants remain poorly understood.
