Article Abstract

Introduction: A few studies have evaluated the efficacy and safety of noninsulated radiofrequency microneedling (RFMN) to treat periorbital wrinkles in Asian patients. Recently, wound healing accelerators, polynucleotides (PNs), have received attention in wound management. However, their efficacy and safety have not been fully elucidated following RFNM. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of noninsulated RFMN for periorbital wrinkles and the synergistic effect of PNs after RFMN.

Methods: Thirty subjects with Fitzpatrick skin types III to V and facial wrinkles (Fitzpatrick grades I and II) were enrolled. All volunteers were treated over the entire face with noninsulated RFMN for three sessions at 2-week intervals. The left and right sides of each patient's face were randomly assigned to receive PNs (treatment group) or normal saline solution (control group). The indentation and maximum depth of wrinkles were objectively measured using Antera 3D. Subjective self-evaluations were obtained at baseline, 2 weeks after the third treatment, and at 1, 2, 3, and 6 months after the final treatment. In addition, pain scores, immediate reactions, and other adverse effects were evaluated.

Results: Twenty-nine subjects completed the treatment protocol. Most presented with grade II wrinkling (69%). At 2-month follow-up, Antera 3D image analysis revealed faster improvement for the treatment group. At 6-month follow-up, the majority of subjects reported an improvement of 25-75% in their periorbital wrinkles. The average pain score was 2.2 out of 10. No serious adverse events (infection, pigmentary alteration, persistent erythema, or scarring) were observed.

Conclusions: Noninsulated RFMN is safe and effective for treating periorbital wrinkles and can be used as a modality for transdermal drug delivery. Topical polynucleotides as an adjunctive treatment provide additional benefits for periorbital wrinkle treatment.

Blepharoplasty: Rejuvenating the Male Periorbital Area.

Facial Plast Surg

September 2025

Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, District of Columbia, United States.

Blepharoplasty is among the fastest-growing aesthetic procedures in male patients, reflecting shifting cultural norms and increasing demand for facial rejuvenation that preserves masculine features. This review outlines the anatomical and aging patterns specific to the male periorbital region and discusses contemporary surgical techniques tailored to this population. The gender-specific anatomical differences in the periorbital region influence both surgical planning and outcomes are highlighted.

Skin aging leads to changes such as dyschromia, rhytids, dermal atrophy, and reduced elasticity. Adipose-derived cell therapies (ADCTs), including stromal vascular fraction (SVF), adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs), and adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AD-MSCs), have gained attention for their regenerative potential. In this systematic review, the authors aim to evaluate the effectiveness of ADCT in improving skin quality such as elasticity, texture, pigmentation, and rhytid reduction.

Background: The combined efficacy and durability of botulinum toxin A (BTX) and hyaluronic acid fillers (HA) for canthal wrinkles have not been thoroughly evaluated in randomized clinical trials.

Aims: This study evaluated the efficacy, safety, and durability of the combined treatment protocol of onabotulinumtoxinA and Juvederm Volite VYC-12 (Skinvive) for moderate and severe canthal lines.

Methods: This randomized double-blinded split-face trial included 25 women with periorbital dynamic wrinkles at severity levels II-IV according to the Merz 5-point scale.

Skin aging causes reduced hydration, elasticity, and increased wrinkles. Recent safety and compliance concerns over oral collagen supplements have increased interest in plant-based alternatives like with antioxidant and anti-aging properties. However, clinical evidence regarding its efficacy remains limited.

August 2025

Central Hospital of Dalian University of Technology (Dalian Municipal Central Hospital), Dalian, 116038, Liaoning, China.

Background: This study examined the clinical efficacy of botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) combined with non-cross-linked bovine collagen in improving periorbital wrinkles.

Methods: Forty participants with periorbital wrinkles were recruited from the Plastic Surgery and Aesthetic Department of the Central Hospital Affiliated to Dalian University of Technology in China between November 2021 and August 2022. Participants were randomly assigned to either an observation group or a control group, with each group comprising 20 participants.
