The discovery of the growth promoting effects of antibiotics in the 1940s contributed to the economic efficacy of the livestock industry. In response to increased animal protein demand from the 1950s, antimicrobial use at sub-therapeutic levels for growth promotion and disease prevention (antimicrobial growth promoter, AGP) improved feed-to-weight ratio, meat quality and overall health of livestock. These benefits encouraged the heavy use of AGPs such that about 70% of global use of antimicrobials was for food animals.

Introduction: Heavy metal pollution adversely affects soil health by disrupting the microbial community structure and functions. The current study aimed to isolate and characterize heavy metal-tolerant bacterial strains and evaluate their potential for soil bioremediation and promoting agricultural sustainability.
Methods: A total of 68 bacterial strains were isolated from industrial discharge-contaminated sites and screened for their maximum tolerance limits (MTL) against Cr, Cu, Pb, As, and Cd.

Plants are sessile organisms confronted by various abiotic stresses, including drought, salinity, heavy metals (HMs), and high/low temperatures throughout their growth cycles. In response to stress conditions, plants activate a cascade of metabolites and signalling molecules and networks. These intricate networks of signalling molecules like nitric oxide (NO), hydrogen sulfide (HS), methyl jasmonate (MeJA), hydrogen peroxide (HO), ethylene (ETH), melatonin (MT), and calcium (Ca ), play a crucial role in enhancing the production of secondary metabolites (SMs) in plants.

Objective: Alcohol use disorder (AUD) clinical trials have traditionally prioritized abstinence, and more recently, heavy drinking cessation as primary treatment endpoints. Reductions in World Health Organization (WHO) risk drinking levels may offer a viable harm reduction-aligned alternative. Despite evidence supporting WHO risk level reductions as meaningful indicators of AUD treatment response, their utility in individuals with co-occurring posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) remains unknown.
