Article Abstract

Background: Members of the plant-specific YABBY gene family are thought to play an important role in the development of leaf, flower, and fruit. The YABBY genes have been characterized and regarded as vital contributors to fruit development in and tomato, in contrast to that in the important tropical economic fruit star fruit (), even though its genome is available.

Methods: In the present study, a total of eight YABBY family genes (named from to ) were identified from the genome of star fruit, and their phylogenetic relationships, functional domains and motif compositions, physicochemical properties, chromosome locations, gene structures, protomer elements, collinear analysis, selective pressure, and expression profiles were further analyzed.

Results: Eight genes () were clustered into five clades and were distributed on five chromosomes, and all of them had undergone negative selection. Tandem and fragment duplications rather than WGD contributed to YABBY gene number in the star fruit. Expression profiles of from different organs and developmental stages of fleshy fruit indicated that may play a specific role in regulating fruit size. These results emphasize the need for further studies on the functions of in fruit development.

Background: There is scant research examining income-based inequalities in risk factors of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and inequities of preventive care services across the South Asian population.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study of 202,682 adults aged 18 or above in four South Asian countries: Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. We combined South Asia Biobank (SAB) surveillance data with environmental mapping exposure and 24-h dietary recall to estimate income-based inequalities using concentration curves and concentration indices (CI) that measure the magnitude and directional inequality effects.

Background: The increasing popularity of fruit juices as part of perceived healthy dietary choices has raised concerns regarding their erosive effects on dental enamel. While prior studies have largely relied on commercial fruit drinks and non-human enamel samples, this study adopts a more ecologically valid approach by using fresh local fruit juices and extracted human teeth to evaluate enamel erosion.

Objectives: This study aimed to assess the consumption patterns, oral hygiene behaviours, and awareness of the erosive potential of fruit juices among Malaysian adults and to evaluate the erosive effects of freshly squeezed local fruit juices on human dental enamel under simulated oral conditions.

Adolescence represents a key opportunity for breast cancer prevention, as the rapid proliferation of breast tissue during puberty creates a critical window of vulnerability for the development of cancerous cells. With increasing research on adolescent dietary factors and breast cancer risk, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to summarize the associations between adolescent diet and risk of breast cancer in adulthood, as well as benign breast disease (BBD) and high mammographic breast density, which are markers for breast cancer. We searched Web of Science, Ovid MEDLINE, Cochrane CENTRAL and Embase for epidemiological studies assessing dietary intakes in adolescent girls (aged 10-18 years), published through 16 October 2024, with no language or time restrictions.

In this study, the essential oils of seeds and leaves from Star Apple (Chrysophyllum cainito L) were profiled and screened for their antimicrobial potential. The volatile oils were isolated by means of hydro-distillation process using a Clevenger-type apparatus. The oils were analysed by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS).
