Article Abstract

Zeolites are crystalline porous materials with important industrial applications, including uses in catalytic and adsorption-separation processes. Access into and out of their inner confined space, where adsorption and reactions occur, is limited by their pore apertures. Stable multidimensional zeolites with larger pores able to process larger molecules are in demand in the fine chemical industry and for the oil processing on which the world still relies for fuels. Currently known extra-large-pore zeolites display poor stability and/or lack pore multidimensionality, limiting their usefulness. We report ZEO-1, a robust, fully connected aluminosilicate zeolite with mutually intersecting three-dimensional extra-large plus three-dimensional large pores. ZEO-1 is stable up to 1000°C, has an extraordinary specific surface area (1000 square meters per gram), and shows potential as a catalytic cracking catalyst.

Metal-, organo-, and proton-catalyzed carbonyl-olefin/alkyne metathesis reactions have gained relevance in organic synthesis during the past decade, but their potential implementation in high-volume processes (i.e., in flow) is severely hampered by the lack of a general, robust, easily separable, and nontoxic solid catalyst.

This study was conducted to evaluate the protective effects of zinc-loaded aluminosilicate minerals, zinc-loaded zeolite (Zn-ZEO) and zinc-loaded montmorillonite (Zn-MMT), on avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC)-challenged broilers. A total of two hundred and forty one-day-old male Arbor Acres broiler chicks were divided into four groups with six replicates of ten birds each for a 21-day trial. The control and the APEC challenge groups were fed a basal diet, while the Zn-ZEO and Zn-MMT groups received the basal diet supplemented with 1000 mg/kg of Zn-ZEO or Zn-MMT, respectively.

Zeolites, microporous aluminosilicates with tuneable physicochemical properties, have garnered increasing attention in dermatology due to their antimicrobial, detoxifying, and drug delivery capabilities. This review evaluates the structural characteristics, therapeutic mechanisms, and clinical applications of zeolites-including clinoptilolite, ZSM-5, ZIF-8, and silver/zinc-functionalized forms-across skin infections, wound healing, acne management, and cosmetic dermatology. Zeolites demonstrated broad-spectrum antibacterial and antifungal efficacy, enhanced antioxidant activity, and biocompatible drug delivery in various dermatological models.
