Statistical physics has proved essential to analyze multiagent environments. Motivated by the empirical observation of various nonequilibrium features in Barro Colorado and other ecological systems, we analyze a plant-species abundance model of neutral competition, presenting analytical evidence of scale-invariant plant clusters and nontrivial emergent modular correlations. Such first theoretical confirmation of a scale-invariant region, based on percolation processes, reproduces the key features in natural rainforest ecosystems and can confer the most stable equilibrium for ecosystems with vast biodiversity.

Background: Despite the well-known effects of elevated bilirubin in neonates, its neurotoxic potential in adults remains uncertain. In perioperative and hepatic disease contexts, transient bilirubin elevations are common; however, their direct contribution to cognitive dysfunction has not been clearly established. This study aimed to determine whether transient bilirubin elevation alone can impair cognition and disrupt blood-brain barrier (BBB) function in adult zebrafish, and to compare these effects with those of liver injury.

Urban green areas are vital yet underexplored reservoirs of microbial diversity in cities. This study examines myxomycete communities in Zijin Mountain National Forest Park, a subtropical urban forest in Nanjing, China, across four seasons and multiple forest types. Combining field collections and moist chamber cultures, we documented 60 species from 906 occurrence records.

Glacial lakes play a vital role as indicators of global climate change and regional environmental responses. Eukaryotic planktonic microorganisms, pivotal in driving biogeochemical cycling of nutrients within these ecosystems, are crucial for preserving stability and ecological function of glacial lake environments. Nevertheless, the spatial and temporal dynamics, along with the mechanisms responsible for sustaining eukaryotic planktonic microbial communities in glacial lakes, especially during the glacier retreat and lake formation, are still largely uncharted.

We present a supramolecular templating strategy for inducing chirality in hybrid perovskites via confined crystallization within chiral super spaces-nanoconfined, helically ordered cavities formed by the self-assembly of achiral bent-core molecules with chiral additives. Upon removal of the additives, the resulting porous films retain permanent chirality. Quasi-2D hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites crystallized within these templates exhibit distinct chiroptical activity, including mirror-image circular dichroism and circularly polarized light emitting (CPLE), with CPLE dissymmetry factors reaching up to 1.

Foot and mouth disease (FMD) remains endemic in several countries across Southeast Asia, China, and Mongolia (SEACFMD region), posing an ongoing threat to livestock and trade. This study aimed to investigate the epidemiological characteristics and analyze the spatial and temporal distribution of FMD outbreaks reported across the SEACFMD region. FMD outbreak and virus lineage data from 2015 to 2023 were utilized.
