The causal connection between serum biomarkers and COVID-19 severity or pathogenicity in children is unclear. The aim of this study was to describe clinical and immunological features of children affected by COVID-19. The secondary aim was to evaluate whether these cytokines could predict severity of COVID-19. All children (aged 0-18) admitted to the Pediatric Emergency Department and tested with nasopharyngeal swab for SARS-CoV-2 were recruited and assigned to three groups: COVID-19, other infections, control group. Clinical and laboratory data of these patients, including circulating cytokine levels, were analyzed in three groups. Fever was the most frequent symptom in COVID-19 (67.3%). Neutropenia was found in the COVID-19 group ( < 0.05); no difference was observed for lymphocyte counts in the three groups. Higher levels of IL-6 and TNF-alpha were found in the COVID-19 group compared to other infections and control groups ( = 0.014 and = 0.001, respectively). Whereas, in the COVID-19 group, no difference was observed as for the same cytokines among sub-groups of different disease severity ( = 0.7 and = 0.8). Serum levels of IL-6 and TNF-alpha were higher in COVID-19 children than in children with other infectious diseases, but those levels did not correlate with disease severity. Clinical studies in a large pediatric population are necessary to better define the role of the immune-mediated response in SARS-CoV-2 infections in children.

Background: Large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) represents a rare and unique type of lung tumor with an unfavorable prognosis. It is essential to summarize the treatment modalities and prognosis for inoperable stage III and IV LCNEC, explore the role of frontline immunotherapy, and examine the stratification role of the Lung Immune Prognostic Index (LIPI) and its relationship with the tumor microenvironment (TME).
Methods: This study retrospectively analyzed 160 patients with inoperable lung LCNEC (L-LCNEC) admitted to three hospitals from December 2012 to November 2023.

Functionalization of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) is a critical means to prepare COF-based gas chromatography stationary phases for high-resolution separation. Here, we report a simple and controllable multi-component strategy for the functionalization of COF stationary phases. As a proof of concept, a COF fabricated from 1,3,5-tris(4-aminophenyl) benzene (Tab) and 2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-benzenedicarboxaldehyde (DHTA), Tab-DHTA, was chosen as a model.

Background: Phthalates are compounds used as plasticizers to increase the flexibility of plastics and are considered endocrine disruptors. Some studies suggest that the origin of prostate cancer (PCa) may be associated with disturbances during embryo-fetal development. Previous data showed that perinatal exposure to the same phthalate mixture (PM) used here increased the incidence of adenocarcinomas in the prostates of aged rats.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of a Health Belief Model-based oral health management program on self-efficacy, oral health behaviors, and three periodontal clinical indicators among pregnant women.
Study Design: A randomized controlled trial was conducted with 65 participants randomly allocated to the intervention (n = 39) and control (n = 26) groups. The intervention included one face-to-face education, three video calls, two online lectures, and regular follow-up supervision in 1 month, while the control group received one face-to-face education.

Background: Reproductive-age women with intrauterine adhesions (IUAs) following uterine surgery may be asymptomatic or may experience light or absent menstruation, infertility, preterm delivery, and/or peripartum hemorrhage. Understanding procedure- and technique-specific risks and the available evidence on the impact of surgical adjuvants is essential to the design of future research.
Objective And Rationale: While many systematic reviews have been published, most deal with singular aspects of the problem.
