Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder characterized by spontaneous recurrent seizures (SRS) and comorbidities. Kindling through repetitive brief stimulation of a limbic structure is a commonly used model of temporal lobe epilepsy. Particularly, extended kindling over a period up to a few months can induce SRS, which may simulate slowly evolving epileptogenesis of temporal lobe epilepsy. Currently, electroencephalographic (EEG) features of SRS in rodent models of extended kindling remain to be detailed. We explored this using a mouse model of extended hippocampal kindling. Intracranial EEG recordings were made from the kindled hippocampus and unstimulated hippocampal, neocortical, piriform, entorhinal, or thalamic area in individual mice. Spontaneous EEG discharges with concurrent low-voltage fast onsets were observed from the two corresponding areas in nearly all SRS detected, irrespective of associated motor seizures. Examined in brain slices, epileptiform discharges were induced by alkaline artificial cerebrospinal fluid in the hippocampal CA3, piriform and entorhinal cortical areas of extended kindled mice but not control mice. Together, these in vivo and in vitro observations suggest that the epileptic activity involving a macroscopic network may generate concurrent discharges in forebrain areas and initiate SRS in hippocampally kindled mice.

Background And Objective: Parental chromosomal structural variations (SVs) represent a primary genetic factor contributing to recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA). Individuals carrying SVs with complex chromosomal rearrangements (CCRs) typically exhibit a normal phenotype but are at an increased risk of miscarriage. Current standard clinical detection methods are insufficient for the identification and interpretation of all SV types, particularly complex and occult SVs, thereby presenting a significant challenge for clinical genetic counseling.

Introduction: The purpose of this study is to describe the outcomes and prevalence of hemoperitoneum recurrence in dogs presumptively cured following splenectomy for spontaneously ruptured benign splenic lesions.
Methods: A retrospective analysis of a cohort of 83 client-owned dogs with spontaneous hemoperitoneum due to a histologically benign, bleeding splenic lesion was performed. Medical records of dogs with ruptured benign splenic tumors presenting with hemoperitoneum were reviewed, in addition to owner follow-up, to determine if subsequent hemoperitoneum events occurred.

Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF-1) is an autosomal dominant disorder associated with vascular abnormalities, including spontaneous hemothorax and arterial aneurysms. We present a rare case of spontaneous hemothorax in which an apparently hemostatic sub-pleural hematoma began to bleed again after the patient was repositioned.
