The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the continuously evolving SARS-CoV-2 virus, has presented persistent global health challenges. As novel variants emerge, many with enhanced transmissibility and immune evasion capabilities, concerns have intensified regarding the efficacy of existing vaccines and therapeutics. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the current landscape of COVID-19 vaccination, including the development and performance of monovalent and bivalent boosters, and examines their effectiveness against newly emerging variants of interest (VOIs) and variants under monitoring (VUMs), such as JN.

Helicene-based circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) materials suffer from severely low color purity in circularly polarized organic light-emitting diodes (CP-OLEDs). Here, a novel molecular engineering strategy is introduced by replacing helicene containing continuous fused benzene rings with a multiple resonance (MR) framework comprising discontinuous fused benzene rings. This approach effectively suppresses high-frequency C─C bond stretching vibrations and enhances short-range charge transfer, enabling high color purity, CPL activity, and efficient thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF).

This article presents an advanced iteration of the polyoxometalate (POM)-Ionosolv concept to generate biobased methyl formate in high yield and a bleached cellulose pulp from lignocellulosic biomass in a single-step operation by using redox-balanced POM catalysts and molecular oxygen in alcoholic ionic liquid (IL) mixtures. The performance of the three Ionosolv-ILs triethylammonium hydrogen sulfate ([TEA][HSO]), N,N-dimethylbutylammonium hydrogen sulfate ([DMBA][HSO4]), and tributylmethylphosphonium methyl sulfate ([TBMP][MeSO]), mixed with methanol (MeOH) (30/70 wt%), is evaluated by methyl formate yield from extracted hemicellulose and lignin as well as purity of the bleached cellulose pulp in the presence of various Keggin-type POMs. The redox-balanced HPVMnMoO POM catalyst in [TBMP][MeSO]/MeOH emerge as the most effective combination, achieving 20% methyl formate yield from commercial beech wood.

Pompe disease is a glycogen storage disorder caused by mutations in the acid α-glucosidase (GAA) gene, leading to reduced GAA activity and glycogen accumulation in heart and skeletal muscles. Enzyme replacement therapy with recombinant GAA, the standard of care for Pompe disease, is limited by poor skeletal muscle distribution and immune responses after repeated administrations. The expression of GAA in muscle with adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors has shown limitations, mainly the low targeting efficiency and immune responses to the transgene.

Endometrial cancer (EC) is one of the most common gynecological cancers in developed countries. Like EC, most female reproductive tract malignancies are thought to be hormonally driven, with estrogen signaling acting as an oncogenic signal. The actions of estrogen are mediated through the classical nuclear estrogen receptors α (ER-α) and β (ER-β) as well as transmembrane G protein-coupled estrogen receptors (GPR30 and GPER).
