The seasonal distribution of hard ticks was investigated in 2018 in Gyeongbuk Province, Republic of Korea. Ticks were assayed for severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV). Ticks were collected monthly using CO-baited traps from April to November in four habitats (grasslands, grave sites, hiking trails, and mixed forests). Based on morphological and molecular identification, Haemaphysalis longicornis was the most commonly collected species, followed by H. flava and Ixodes nipponensis. Ticks were more commonly collected in grassland habitats, followed by the grave sites, hiking trails, and mixed forests. Peak numbers of nymphs and adults of H. longicornis occurred in May and June, respectively, and Haemaphysalis larvae were collected from August to October. A total of 9/187 (4.8%) pools were positive for SFTSV between June and October in 2018. Phylogenetic analysis of partial fragments of the SFTSV obtained in this study showed that all positive virus samples clustered into genotype B.

Urban green areas are vital yet underexplored reservoirs of microbial diversity in cities. This study examines myxomycete communities in Zijin Mountain National Forest Park, a subtropical urban forest in Nanjing, China, across four seasons and multiple forest types. Combining field collections and moist chamber cultures, we documented 60 species from 906 occurrence records.

The coordination of floral developmental stages with the environment is important for reproductive success and the optimization of crop yields. The timing of different developmental stages contributes to final yield potential with optimal adaptation enabling development to proceed without being impacted by seasonal weather events, including frosts or end of season drought. About 50% of atmospheric Hg is captured in the system because of the ability of vegetation to retain and subsequently transfer it to the soil surface through litterfall. Transition zones exhibit a unique combination of abiotic characteristics derived from the merging of two distinct areas, hosting communities with different thermal tolerance and distribution ranges. Given these characteristics, these zones are key to unmasking the effects of climate change on biodiversity since rapid changes in the sea temperature can favor some populations more than others.
