Aldo-keto reductases (AKRs) are a superfamily of NAD(P)(H)-dependent oxidoreductases (phase I enzymes) that reduce aldehydes and ketones to primary and secondary alcohols, respectively. Four percent of xenobiotic biotransformation has been attributed to AKRs, although this is likely an underestimate because this is based on their ability to act as carbonyl reductases. AKRs also have an emerging role in nitroreduction.

Psoralen, a bioactive natural compound, exhibits anticancer properties, but its effects and mechanisms in NSCLC remain unclear. This study explored whether psoralen induces ferroptosis by triggering mitochondrial damage and investigates the underlying molecular mechanisms.

Often mediated by loss-of-function mutations in , this activation causes increased NRF2 transcriptional activity and constitutive activation of the antioxidant response. While mutations have been well documented in various cancers, their presence and role in thyroid carcinoma have remained largely unexplored.

Sepsis is a condition resulting from the uncontrolled immune response to infection, leading to widespread inflammatory damage and potentially fatal organ dysfunction. Currently, there is a lack of specific prevention and treatment strategies for sepsis across different age groups. Programmed Cell Death (PCD) can regulate the enrichment of effector immune cells or regulatory immune cells, providing a new perspective for immunotherapy.

In recent years, the incidence of colorectal cancer is still on the rise. The killing of tumor cells through chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy is the mainstay of clinical anticolorectal cancer therapy, but is limited by drug and radiation resistance of tumor cells. Ferroptosis, a novel mode of programmed cell death, plays an important role in antitumor therapy.
