A crucial assumption of the recently developed is that people's perceived self-control efforts are related to the experience of lowered subjective vitality. In the present study, this assumption was tested. It was also examined whether perceived self-control effort is related to a diffuse affective experience (i.e., subjective vitality, general positive affect, and general negative affect as a combined factor) or is discretely related to subjective vitality, general positive affect, and general negative affect. Based on the previous literature, it was expected that the latter would better fit the data. In a survey study, university students ( = 501) completed standardized measures of their perceived self-control effort, subjective vitality, general positive affect, and general negative affect with regard to a specific frame of reference (i.e., during the current day and the last 2 days). Bivariate correlations and confirmatory factor analyses revealed the expected relationships, meaning that perceived self-control effort was negatively related to subjective vitality and that the statistical model with three distinct affective variables fit the data better than the model with subjective vitality, positive affect, and negative affect incorporated into one common factor. It was concluded that the findings are in line with the schema model of self-control.

Based on the schema model of self-control, recent research has shown that people cognitively associate self-control exertion with a subsequent decrease in perceived vitality. The present study aimed to replicate this effect and extend it by testing two additional hypotheses: greater exertion of self-control would be cognitively associated with a more pronounced decline in perceived vitality, and endorsement of a limited-resource theory would be negatively related to perceived subjective vitality in self-control situations. Participants (N = 143) read two vignettes describing a fictitious character who either exerted self-control (typing with an unfamiliar AZERTY keyboard) or did not (typing with a familiar QWERTZ keyboard).

Research suggests that perfectionistic concerns are associated with lower levels of well-being while perfectionistic strivings are associated with higher levels of well-being. While characteristics such as unrealistic expectations and a fear of failure help to explain why perfectionistic concerns are associated with lower levels of well-being, it remains unclear why perfectionistic strivings are associated with higher levels of well-being. To address this issue, the present research utilised a cross-sectional design and an opportunity sample of undergraduate psychology students ( = 218; mean age = 18.

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive condition with limited treatment options that often lead to significant morbidity. Oxyhydrogen nanobubbles (HHOnb), a form of ultrafine gas-in-liquid dispersion containing hydrogen and oxygen, have shown potential therapeutic benefits due to their antioxidative and anti-inflammatory properties. This exploratory case series investigates the effects of intravenous HHOnb therapy in three patients with varying stages of CKD.
