Objectives: The treatment of acute herpangina is inconsistent. We aim to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of interferon α-2b spray versus Ribavirin for this disease.
Methods: A randomized, controlled trial was conducted in eight hospitals in China between 2016 and 2018. 668 patients (1-7 years old) were randomized into an experimental group (treated with Interferon α-2b spray) or control group (received Ribavirin Aerosol). Body temperature returning to normal within 72 h and remaining so for 24 h was the primary outcome; release of oral herpes and adverse events were the secondary outcomes.
Results: (1) The average age of onset was 2.5 years old. (2) After 72 h treatment, body temperature of 98.5% patients in experimental group and 94.3% in control group returned to normal and remained so for 24 h (P = 0.004). The differences were greater at 48 h treatment (95.2% vs. 85.9%, P < 0.001) and at 24 h (77.5% vs. 66.5%, P = 0.001). (3) The rate of improved oral herpes in the experimental group was higher than that in control group (46.7% vs.37.1%, P = 0.011). No adverse reaction occurred.
Conclusions: Local application of recombinant interferon α-2b spray showed better efficacy for acute herpangina in children. It was safe for use.

Hirudin, a polypeptide extracted from medicinal leeches, has demonstrated potential in treating renal fibrosis. This study aimed to explore the underlying mechanisms by which Hirudin alleviates renal fibrosis. Renal fibrosis models were established using unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) surgery in rats and transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β)-induced HK-2 cells, followed by treatment with different concentrations of Hirudin.

Objectives: To investigate the mechanism of (QJZ) for ameliorating renal damage in MRL/lpr mice.
Methods: With 6 female C57BL/6 mice as the normal control group, 30 female MRL/lpr mice were randomized into model group, QJZ treatment groups at low, moderate and high doses, and prednisone treatment group (6). After 8 weeks of treatment, the mice were examined for 24-h urine protein, creatinine and albumin levels, serum levels of IgG, complement 3 (C3), C4, anti-dsDNA, interferon γ (IFN‑γ) and interleukin 17 (IL-17).

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) is a nuclear receptor abundantly expressed in the fatty liver of type 2 diabetic ob/ob mice. Herein, we investigated how PPARγ regulates the expression of the interferon alpha-inducible protein 27-like 2b (lfi27l2b) gene in the mouse liver. High expression of lfi27l2b was observed in the fatty liver of ob/ob mice, and the expression was further upregulated by PPARγ ligands; however, liver-specific Pparg knockout ameliorated this increase.

The stimulator of interferon genes (STING) pathway is a central target in cancer immunotherapy, but current STING agonist therapies lack precision control, leading to suboptimal therapeutic outcomes and systematic adverse effects. Herein, we engineered a dual-locked immuno-polymeric nanoplatform (IPN) with precise spatiotemporal control over the release of STING agonists to enhance cancer immunotherapy. This platform, constructed from biocompatible poly(β-amino esters) (PBAE), incorporates the STING agonist (MSA-2) covalently linked via ester bonds, which is co-assembled with a sonosensitizer.

Background: Coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) infection is a common cause of myocarditis, and the resulting inflammatory response and cellular damage can lead to severe cardiac dysfunction. Astragaloside IV (AS-IV), a natural compound with anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties, has shown potential therapeutic value in various inflammatory and immune-related diseases. Our study aims to explore the potential effects and underlying mechanisms of AS-IV in CVB3-induced viral myocarditis (VMC).
