Thyroid eye disease (TED) is a prevalent autoimmune orbital disorder that can severely impair visual function and significantly diminish patients' quality of life. In recent years, several studies have attempted to automate TED diagnosis using optical coherence tomography (OCT) images. However, existing approaches primarily rely on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) combined with attention mechanisms and are mostly trained using traditional cross-entropy loss.

Although there was a rapidly growing body of literature on human-animal relationships during the COVID-19 pandemic, little attention was given to accounts of animal death through and beyond COVID-19. This paper reports on two connected studies undertaken after the end of COVID-19 restrictions in the United Kingdom, here focusing specifically on animal companion loss. From an online survey of 667 participants, 354 responded to an open-ended question about the loss of an animal.

Unlocking High-Performance Electrochemiluminescence in Supramolecular Coordination Frameworks via π-Bridge Engineering and Aggregation.

Small

September 2025

School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Key Lab of Fuel Cell Technology of Guangdong Province, South China University of Technology, Guangzhou, 510641, China.

Aggregation-induced electrochemiluminescence (AIECL) is a promising strategy for enhancing electrochemiluminescence (ECL) efficiency by minimizing energy loss of excited-state ECL emitters. However, rational design of high-efficiency AIECL emitters is hindered by limited mechanistic understanding and an unclear structure-performance relationship. To address this, four supramolecular coordination frameworks (SCFs) with varying π-bridge structures are synthesized using pyridine-functionalized tetraphenylethene (TPE) as the ligand and Pt(II) as the coordination center.

Micro-Embolic Events and Their Clearing in the Brain. A Narrative Review.

Acta Physiol (Oxf)

October 2025

Biomedical Engineering and Physics, Amsterdam University Medical Center, University of Amsterdam, Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Background: The cerebral circulation is continuously challenged by intravascular micrometer-sized particles that become trapped microvascular-emboli. These particles may include micro-thrombi, stiffened erythrocytes, and leukocytes, while also fat particles, air, and microplastics may cause microvascular embolism.

Review Scope: In this narrative review, we discuss these embolization processes and their acute and chronic consequences.

Unlabelled: Autoimmune haemolytic anaemia (AIHA) is caused by antibody-mediated destruction of red blood cells. There are two broad categories of AIHA: warm and cold, both categorized by the thermal reactivity of the autoantibodies. Cold agglutinin disease (CAD) occurs at temperatures below normal body temperature and primarily involves IgM antibodies.
