The newly isolated PBURU 12 demonstrated a high tolerance and potential for the degradation of phenanthrene. The fungal isolate was able to tolerate 100 ppm of phenanthrene with 45% relative growth. The crude laccase produced by PBURU 12 was able to degrade phenanthrene by up to 98% within 24 h. The degradation metabolites showed the absence of toxic compounds. Microbial viability tests using and revealed that the treated phenanthrene was less toxic than untreated phenanthrene. Phytotoxicity and genotoxicity tests, using and , indicated that the treated phenanthrene was less toxic to the plants. No mutagenic activity was found in the Ames test. The crude laccase from PBURU 12 was demonstrated as a potential tool for the biodegradation of PAHs (phenanthrene), with low toxic effects after the degradation.

Despite the contribution of the µ-agonist fentanyl to the United States's opiate overdose epidemic, no human studies specifically address the ability of extended-release preparations of the opiate antagonist naltrexone (NTX) to block fentanyl's life-threatening µ-agonist-mediated respiratory depression. This paper presents three case histories of clinically necessary opiate challenges in opiate-abusing patients implanted with extended-release NTX (ER-NTX). It also reviews the sparse literature and is the first evidence that antagonist blood levels from ER-NTX preparations can completely block the lethal µ-agonist effects of at least 1,000 mcg of intravenous fentanyl.

In the adult brain, neurogenesis primarily occurs in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus (DG) and the olfactory bulbs, with new cells migrating from the subventricular zone. Additionally, small amounts of cell proliferation have been observed in the preoptic area (POA) and the amygdala (AMG), regions involved in the control of male sexual behavior. Sexual activity induces a reward state mediated by opioids, and our group previously demonstrated that neurogenesis induced by paced mating is opioid dependent in female rats.
