Article Abstract

Korean red pine needle (RPN) exhibits various biological and pharmacological activities. Among the various compounds of RPN, we isolated dehydroabietic and 4---communic acid. At first, we confirmed that two compounds inhibited angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) and induced p-Akt in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC). RPN extract powder significantly reduced systolic blood pressure in spontaneous hypertensive rats (SHRs) through the reduced expression of and in the lungs of SHRs. The Lineweaver-Burk plots suggested that the two compounds were noncompetitive inhibitors of ACE. Using docking analysis, we found that two compounds showed the best returned pose at ACE active sites, and formed hydrogen and hydrophobic bonds with ACE residues. These results demonstrate that RPNs may be a source of compounds effective for preventing hypertension and may be useful in the development of antihypertensive drugs.

Synthesis and antifungal activity evaluation of novel dehydroabietic acid-based Schiff base derivatives for sustainable agricultural protection.

Pest Manag Sci

September 2025

Key Laboratory of Biomass Energy and Material, Jiangsu Province, College of Forestry, Northwest A&F University, Yangling, People's Republic of China.

Background: Plant diseases cause significant economic losses in global agriculture each year, and the long-term use of commercial fungicides has led to serious environmental pollution and pesticide resistance. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop effective and eco-friendly plant-based antifungal compounds.

Results: A series of rosin-based Schiff base derivatives were synthesized, and all compounds were charactered using FT-IR, H NMR, C NMR and LC-MS.

To develop an environmentally friendly rosin-based fungicide for controlling fusarium crown rot, a series of dehydroabietyl-Schiff-based derivatives were designed and synthesized. All compounds were validated by FT-IR, H NMR, C NMR, and LC-MS spectroscopies. In vitro activity assays showed that compound 4o (Co.

Objective: Ginger, scientifically known as , is a plant root that has a variety of therapeutic applications, including the treatment of nausea, inflammation, digestive problems, and management of renal function in chronic kidney disease (CKD). CKD is a life-threatening condition that, if untreated, leads to organ damage and is acknowledged as a global health concern. The present study aims at predicting bioactive compounds from that were identified through gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC-MS), with the potential against a selected target of CKD, and was investigated using a pharmaco-informatics approach.

Ferruginol, tanshinones and carnosol are considered privileged natural products due to their demonstrated diverse biological activities with relevance to cancer research. Globally, cancer continues to be a major contributor to mortality rates, making these compounds potentially valuable molecular scaffolds for further development as potential anticancer agents. In this work, a focused library of ferruginol, tanshinone IIA, and carnosol analogues was studied to examine their effectiveness against various solid tumor models.

A dual-emission fluorescence probe for sensitive determination of haloacetic acids (HAAs) was fabricated based on the Eu(III) complex (DDM-Phen-Eu), while dehydroabietic amine (DDM) and 1,10-phenanthroline (Phen) served as the ligands. FTIR, UV-vis, WAXD, SEM, elemental analysis, ESI-MS, and XPS measurements were employed to disclose the coordination structure of DDM-Phen-Eu. Based on the study of the Huang-Rhys factors and the Judd-Ofelt parameters, the introduction of DDM would decrease the reorganization energy, stabilize the coordinate structure, and improve the fluorescence quantum yield of DDM-Phen-Eu up to 90.
