A ternary composite of poly(lactic acid) (PLA), poly(caprolactone) (PCL), and carbon black (CB) shows the PCL-induced CB self-aggregation and percolation formation when the amount of the PCL phase as the secondary phase is as small as the amount of CB. Furthermore, when the drop size of the PCL phase becomes smaller, the ternary composite forms a percolation of high order structure, resulting in a remarkable enhancement of the electrical conductivity (~4 × 10 S/m with 4 wt.% CB). To further control the percolation structure, the composite fabrication is controlled by splitting a typical single-step mixing process into two steps, focusing on the dispersion of the secondary PCL phase and the CB particles separately. Under the single-step mixing protocol, the ternary composite shows a structure with greater CB aggregation in the form of a high aspect ratio and large aggregates (aggregate perimeter~aggregate size 0.7). Meanwhile, the two-step mixing process causes the CB aggregates to expand and create a higher structure (aggregate perimeter~aggregate size 0.8). The reduced size of the secondary phase under a mixing condition with high shear force prior to the addition of CB provides a larger interfacial area for CB to diffuse into the PCL phase during the subsequent mixing step, resulting in a further expansion of CB aggregation throughout the composite. The particle percolation of such a high order structure is attributed to high storage modulus (G'), high Young's modulus, high dielectric loss (ε″), and negative-positive switching of dielectric constant at high frequency (of 103 Hz) of composite.

Chitosan is a promising bioflocculant for harvesting microalgae, its practical implementation is constrained by high dosage demands (typically >1 g/L) and suboptimal settling kinetics. And the microalgae harvesting process is susceptible to the significant influence of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS), the mechanism of which is still unclear. This study synthesized amino-functionalized chitosan-diatomite composites (APTES-CTS/DTE) and revealed the action mechanism of EPS in the flocculation of microalgae.

The practical application of lithium‑sulfur (LiS) batteries is often restricted by the uncontrolled diffusion of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) and their intrinsically sluggish redox kinetics. To address these limitations, we designed a multidimensional composite separator by anchoring Zn-Co-Ni-S nanocrystals onto alkalized two-dimensional transition metal carbide/nitride (MXene) nanosheets, followed by the incorporation of one-dimensional carbon nanotubes (CNTs), yielding a robust and highly conductive interfacial architecture. This multidimensional configuration combines physical confinement, strong chemisorption, and catalytic enhancement to regulate sulfur redox behavior effectively.

This study systematically investigates an Mn-Fe-Ni pseudo-ternary system for Na(Mn-Fe-Ni)O cathodes, focusing on the effects of varying transition metal fractions on structural and electrochemical properties. X-ray diffraction reveals that increasing Mn content induces biphasic behavior. A higher Ni content reduces the parameter, while higher Mn and Fe concentrations expand the lattice.

Designing functional materials with tailored properties often involves alloying different semiconductors, yet the nonlinear bandgap bowing effect complicates precise bandgap engineering, particularly in ultrawide-bandgap systems, such as Ga2O3 ternary alloys. In this work, we examined the bandgap nonlinearity and composition-dependent bowing in pure-phase α-(AlxGa1-x)2O3 epilayers (0 < x < 0.62) grown via laser molecular beam epitaxy on m-plane sapphire substrates.
