Article Abstract

Minimizing human intervention in engines, such as traffic lights, through automatic applications and sensors has been the focus of many studies. Thus, Deep Learning (DL) algorithms have been studied for traffic signs and vehicle identification in an urban traffic context. However, there is a lack of priority vehicle classification algorithms with high accuracy, fast processing, and a lightweight solution. For filling those gaps, a vehicle detection system is proposed, which is integrated with an intelligent traffic light. Thus, this work proposes (1) a novel vehicle detection model named Priority Vehicle Image Detection Network (PVIDNet), based on YOLOV3, (2) a lightweight design strategy for the PVIDNet model using an activation function to decrease the execution time of the proposed model, (3) a traffic control algorithm based on the Brazilian Traffic Code, and (4) a database containing Brazilian vehicle images. The effectiveness of the proposed solutions were evaluated using the Simulation of Urban MObility (SUMO) tool. Results show that PVIDNet reached an accuracy higher than 0.95, and the waiting time of priority vehicles was reduced by up to 50%, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed solution.

During the long course of evolution, fish have developed complex skin structures to adapt to the dynamic aquatic environment. These skin features not only reflect optimal adaptation to the aquatic environment but also play a key role in effectively reducing fluid drag and improving swimming efficiency, to reveal the intrinsic connection between the complex skin structure of fish and drag reduction performance and to provide new design ideas for the drag reduction surface of underwater vehicles. Based on the different drag reduction characteristics of fish skin structures, this paper divides existing biomimetic drag reduction technologies into three categories: riblet drag reduction, flexible drag reduction, and composite drag reduction.

Controlling vehicular emissions is a critical priority, particularly in developing countries like Brazil, where the vehicular fleet has expanded significantly. Although Brazil's Program to Control Vehicular Emissions has reduced certain air pollutants by mandating technological advancements in new vehicles, it did not consider the substantial increase in vehicle numbers and density across the country. Autonomous systems operating in high-dimensional environments increasingly rely on prioritization heuristics to allocate attention and assess risk, yet these mechanisms can introduce cognitive biases such as salience, spatial framing, and temporal familiarity that influence decision-making without altering the input or accessing internal states. This study presents Priority Inversion via Operational Reasoning (PRIOR), a black-box, non-perturbative diagnostic framework that employs structurally biased but semantically neutral scenario cues to probe inference-level vulnerabilities without modifying pixel-level, statistical, or surface semantic properties. Given the limited accessibility of embodied vision-based systems, we evaluate PRIOR using large language models (LLMs) as abstract reasoning proxies to simulate cognitive prioritization in constrained textual surveillance scenarios inspired by Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) operations.

Background: Exposure to hypotension is linked to increased morbidity and mortality. Invasive blood pressure (IBP) measurement might be superior to non-invasive blood pressure measurement in detecting hypotension.
