Green and efficient synthesis of titanium-containing molecular sieves is limited by the quantity of environmentally unfriendly additives and complicated synthesis procedures required. Oligomerization of Ti monomers into anatase TiO is the typical outcome of such procedures because of a mismatch between hydrolysis rates of Si and Ti precursors. We report a simple and generic additive-free route for the synthesis of Ti-containing molecular sieves (MFI, MEL, and BEA). This approach successfully reverses the formation of Ti oligomers to match hydrolysis rates of Ti and Si species with the assistance of hydroxyl free radicals generated in situ from ultraviolet irradiation. Moreover, fantastic catalytic performance for propene epoxidation with H and O was observed. Compared with the conventional hydrothermal method, this approach opens up new opportunities for high-efficiency, environmentally benign, and facile production of pure titanium-containing molecular sieves.

The aluminum electrolysis industry generates massive greenhouse gas emissions dominated by CO and perfluorocarbons (PFCs, CF/CF), presenting dual challenges of climate impact and resource waste. Here, we report a robust nickel-based metal-organic framework (SIFSIX-3-Ni) featuring confined square channels (3.55 Å) that achieves the molecular-sieving separation of CO from CF/CF mixtures.

Lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs) are extensively researched for their high energy densities but are hindered by the lithium polysulfide (LiPS) shuttling effect, which results in poor cyclability. A popular mitigation strategy is separator modification, where a LiPS trapping material is slurry-coated onto a conventional microporous polypropylene (PP) separator. This additional mass and volume unfortunately compromise the overall energy density of the LSB.

The disposal and management of coal gangue (CG) waste from coal mining pose significant environmental pollution challenges. Here, we propose utilizing CG as raw material to synthesize CG-based NaA-type molecular sieves (CG@NaA MS) through a high-temperature alkali fusion combined with a hydrothermal process. This approach enables the sustainable treatment of copper ions and methylene blue (MB) in wastewater.

The high-precision discrimination of cancer cell types is crucial for the fundamental understanding of their progressions and accurate clinical prognosis. Resolving microRNAs (miRNAs) and related biomolecules has emerged as a powerful approach to elucidate cell types. However, the cell discrimination via miRNA profiling needs to address two critical challenges: (i) the shared sequence homology and localization of miRNA to precursor microRNA (pre-miRNA) may lead to false-positive signals.

Over the past decade, efforts focused on developing genetic therapies for inherited retinal diseases have advanced steadily to clinical trials and the development of a treatment, fueling optimism for the potential of precision medicines to provide safe and effective therapies for these rare conditions. Although several ongoing programs remain poised for success, numerous challenges have negatively impacted the ability to obtain regulatory approvals. The present position paper briefly summarizes recent advances and challenges in developing therapeutics for inherited retinal diseases, and presents a set of recommendations for moving the field forward.
